"Paul Bremer, the US overseer in Iraq (news - web sites), earlier announced a unilateral 24-hour halt in hostilities to enable talks..."
Trump (and any other normal person) to Bremer:
You're fired!
What the hell is the matter with this doofus?

Having spent considerable time in the middle east I have an observation that deserves some discussion and consideration. Arabs and Arab culture have an inherent conflict; they are an honor based society yet harbor a deep seated inferiority complex with respect to the west. They demand "Unconditional Respect" as a remedy. Many of the extreme positions and actions taken are for the sole purpose of provoking a disrespectful response to give them an excuse to justifiably retaliate. Even an undesirable outcome to an act of revenge is a redemption. Our problem is that as long as they are screwed up and inferior to the west they will be a problem.
That means we will have this problem for a long, long time unless we act to change them. The only realistic solution is to westernize them (aka Nation Building)as will take place in Iraq if Bush is successful.

I am getting really annoyed with some people here on FR who are wringing their hands and screaming that the sky is falling. One of my coworkers was doing this just yesterday. I told him that it's much better to get all of your enemy in one place and have a real fight and get it over with than have them spend the next 20 years swatting at guerillas like a sick whack-a-mole game.
His next point was that we shouldn't have stopped looking for OBL. I am just dumb-struck by the utter ignorance people have fogging their thought processes. I informed him that we still have thousands of troops in Afghanistan and that there are probably specops and maybe even scarier people than that sneaking around Pakistan. I punctuated my points with the statement: "Just because you don't hear about something on the nightly news, doesn't mean that it didn't happen".
He politely nodded and went on about his business. The biggest words used on the shows he listens to are "penalty" and "RBI".

I've been playing the Price is Right with myself over this for a week or so. I've decided I'm good with flattening Falluja at 30K residents who're too obstinate to flee. Do you have a number yet?

I heard on radio today that the dead are being buried in graves in a city stadium field.

"The word has passed from on high that snipers are hiding in minarets from noon today because they know we can't engage a mosque unless they engage us first," said one marine officer, who asked not to be named.
Nam part 2. There should be a brig time for the traitor who came up with these rules of engagement that say we can't shoot at a mosque until we are shoot at. What pray tell, does anyone think the enemy rules of engagement are? None!
The statement should go out that all buildings including mosques will be leveled in 4 hours by B52s. Get out with your hands up or Get dead.

Do you remember the FR wars of 4 or 5 years ago when our guys started training for house-to-house and urban warfare? It was thought that it was in preparation for a military takeover of the U.S. I just hope that these are some of the officers that recieved that training.

the CPA should gather all the prominent tribal leaders of Fallujah, Ramadi, Khaldiyah (since those towns are largely tribal ones) and give them two options; either to hand out all weaponry and ammunitions, plus any insurgents and foreign terrorists they have amongst them, or to face the consequences which could be pulling out of the area completely, halting all reconstruction and humanitarian efforts, and leaving it behind the rest of Iraq, if that's what they want. http://healingiraq.blogspot.com zeyad: 4/5/2004
I've always found Doctor Zeyad to be thought provoking. Again he did not fail.
