Actors Whip Easter Bunny at Church Show ("Mommy why are they hitting the Easter bunny?")

GLASSPORT, Pa.

A church trying to teach about the crucifixion of Jesus performed an Easter show with actors whipping the Easter bunny and breaking eggs, upsetting several parents and young children.

People who attended Saturday's performance at Glassport's memorial stadium quoted performers as saying, "There is no Easter bunny," and described the show as being a demonstration of how Jesus was crucified.

Melissa Salzmann, who brought her 4-year-old son J.T., said the program was inappropriate for young children. "He was crying and asking me why the bunny was being whipped," Salzmann said.

Patty Bickerton, the youth minister at Glassport Assembly of God, said the performance wasn't meant to be offensive. Bickerton portrayed the Easter rabbit and said she tried to act with a tone of irreverence.

"The program was for all ages, not just the kids. We wanted to convey that Easter is not just about the Easter bunny, it is about Jesus Christ," Bickerton said.

Performers broke eggs meant for an Easter egg hunt and also portrayed a drunken man and a self-mutilating woman, said Jennifer Norelli-Burke, another parent who saw the show in Glassport, a community about 10 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

"It was very disturbing," Norelli-Burke said. "I could not believe what I saw. It wasn't anything I was expecting."

What next? Giving Santa Claus a ceremonial ass-kicking during candlelight services? Sheesh.

We can have Jackie Chan dress up as Jesus, to do the job. This is South Park come to life.

This was not well thought out, and it was a bad idea. That said, I am still ROFLMAO!!

This has been on the Pittsburgh local news...honest, one of the people from the church was a ringer for Dana Carvey's 'Church Lady.' You just can't make this stuff up...they (the people doing the show) stepped over the line. Sorry.

Several years ago I had a very devout relative tell me that (I'm not making this up) Santa is really satanic (scramble the letters)...and how I was 'destroying' the true meaning of Christmas for my kids, yadayadayada...just stopped inviting that couple to my house at the holidays. My kids, my house, my rules...

!!?!! LOL!! What kind of drugs was the writer of this play ON?? Sounds like the most BIZARRE thing I've EVER heard of!
And it was performed in a STADIUM? What NIGHTMARES some of these kids must have suffered! And adults, too.

Those guys just got off their Harleys and are bored. Just get far enough away to observe them.

The Glassport Assembly of God is crazy, and needs an attitude adjustment. Maybe next year at a Christmas pageant they will burn Santa Clause at the stake, or something similar.

Hmmm, I don't get it. Sounds like an NEA grant.

Looks like Rudolph and 5 other reindeers escaped. Good, now we can have the sequel, "The Revenge of Mrs. Claus"...

One of the people defending the performance should have just ended her speil by saying 'Well isn't that special?' I wish I got the name, not sure if it was Bickerton...

As innocent as they seem, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy are definitely cute anti-Christian little tricks.

When kids are little, all the grown-ups, that they trust, tell them that there are wonderful, magical, gift-bearing creatures who come and visit their house throughout the year.

(Oh, by the way, they also tell their kids that their is a God, who doesn't bring any gifts, that they also should believe in.)

Well one day when they are about 8 years old, they find out that the adults, who they trusted, MADE UP all that stuff about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy because it was FUN!

("Oh, by the way, that stuff about God, who doesn't bring any gifts, that part was true.")
Really, you can trust me."

See, eight-year-olds can tell their parents are finally telling the truth. Can't they?

The show was way over the line, but your relative may have been right.

Revelation 2: 5-7 and 14-16. Who are the Nicolaitans, really?

Well we all know that 'those' churches with 'bus ministries' tape quarters underneath the seats to get the kids to go...
