Writers Working on 'The Simpsons' Movie
AP/Miami Herald ^ | 4.7.2004

Lisa Simpson will still be 8 when "The Simpsons" movie comes out - but we'll be a lot older.

Writers are working now, but the voice of Lisa Simpson, Yeardley Smith, said the film won't be made until the series is over, and it still has at least two seasons to go. Smith said it will then take three years to make the movie because "animation takes forever."

Despite the lengthy process, Smith says she's glad to hear about the movie. "My wish for the show is that it go out with a bang and not a pimple," Smith told AP Radio. "And if we can do a movie and it can be as good as our best episodes, I'm thrilled. I think that would be wonderful."

Smith said she hopes the writers will keep Lisa's childlike sense of humor in the movie.

"If they just make her too esoteric, too philosophical, too bright, too much the voice of reason then she really becomes insufferable," she said. "You have to always, always, always remember that she's 8 and that she's a huge Itchy and Scratchy fan, that she loves Krusty the Clown. And that in spite of her beliefs and her issues, she's a kid."

His gig with South Park has been a boon to his career both musically and in front of the camera. I've even seen him ain a few commercials. And saw him in some music gig conducting an orchestra playing his tunes.

Personally, I owe him a great debt for his 'HOT BUTTERED SOUL' album. It was the 'go-to' sound track for much 'sweet love' during my early days.

"By the time I got to Phoenix" I was rounding 3rd base and going for home.

My father got those for the beer drinkers in the family a couple Christmases ago, and my niece LOVES it when Homer says that

I got my 1-year old niece three jumpers for her birthday: One is a picture of Homer smacking his head and crying D'oh!, the second is Bush/Cheney '04 and the third is one that says "I'm the NRA" on the front and back.

She jumps up and down, claps her hands, and wiggles. My poor brother-in-law has to drink another beer to satisfy her. What kind of hideous fate is that?

"All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer."

"Son, a woman is like a beer. They smell good, they look good, you'd step over your own mother just to get one! But you can't stop at one. You wanna drink another woman!"

"Now son, you don't want to drink beer. That's for daddies, and kids with fake IDs."

"To alcohol! The cause of - and solution to - all of life's problems."

"Son, when you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose. It's how drunk you get."

"I would kill everyone in this room for a drop of sweet beer."

Homer, then Rainier Wolfcastle "your daughter is one one of those whale-kissing Dukakis-hugging moon-maidens."

She must've meant "whimper," not "pimple"!

I figured that went without saying so I didn't say it.

Favorite Simpson: Grandpa
Favorite Non-Simpson: (tie) Ned Flanders or Ralph Wiggum

I actually have a hard time picking a favorite Simpson, because I feel that the family has become boring. It's all the sidekick characters that still have charm and all the best lines.

HOMER: What if I want to be a Supreme Court Justice and a male stripper?

MARGE: You can't be both!

HOMER: Why not, like the late Chief Justice Earl Warren?

MARGE: Earl Warren was NOT a male stripper!

HOMER: Oh Marge, now look who's being naive.

2 years?! I knew the Simpsons used one of the least efficient methods of doing animation out there, but I didn't realize it was that bad. They're character almost never change costume, they should be able to do a 90 minute movie in about 6 months.

This article highlights the recent problem with the Simpson's: too much Lisa. There is nothing more annoying than a know-it-all liberal 8 year old. When they focus more on Homer then it is still a top notch show.

When the show started, it was mostly about Bart, which was OK.

When they finally realized that Homer was the gold mine, it got great.

Any episode that deviates from the Homercentric viewpoint is a weak episode.

Lisa or Marge centered episodes are the worst.

On that annoying show on E! they said from initial talk in the writing room to air is about 1 year for a Simpsons ep. Very slow show to make, which is part of its problem, how do you keep humor fresh for a year? How do you make episodes about current events, topical humor now is just lame a year from now. And then there's unhappy accidents, like last year's ep where-in Mr Burns threatened to put somebody through a plastic shredder... like two weeks after news came out that Saddam did just that.

Willie is Scottish!

AS for this season, my attitude is like those fishing bumperstickers...even a bad Simpsons episode makes me laugh harder than any other TV show.

Frankly, as a history teacher, I thought the recent episode lampooning Henry VIII, Lewis and Clark, and Mozart was hilarious.
