There was no looting in most Hispanic dominated neighborhoods, including East Los Angeles. It was mostly limited to the Hispanics living in parts of the formerly black ghetto that joined in the action, and in the Pico Union district, and parts of East Hollywood. About 90% of the Hispanic neighborhoods, where 90% of the Hispanics lived, were quiet. That may well be. But in the areas where looting did occur (from south central to the fringes of Beverly Hills and the valley), most of the looters were Hispanic (and very often non-citizens).

Your property taxes are dirt cheap dear. Nowhere else could a 1.5 million dollar house cost you only 7K in property taxes.

Most of the looters were not Hispanic, and a fair number were Anglos. I saw some looting a store in Hollywood on TV.

The wife and I have been practicing tangoing to some old Gardel tunes.
We'll get the hang of it soon I'm sure.

OK, what is Pat to make of all the "race traitor" white males who marry Asian women. It seems to me that at least 20% of the white guys you meet in NYC are married to Asians these days.
America has been a cultural cesspool since it was founded. Sure we have our Hemingways and Ellingtons, but they have always been outnumbered by the Yellow Press, Pulp Novels, "reality shows" and other such dreck that have dominated mass culture from the beginning.
My fear is that we are letting in too many POOR people who will vote us into Socialism. I fear that there is no hope, even if we started a ZERO immigration policy tomorrow.
As far as the "cultural" aspect, there are some negatives, but I could care less what language you speak, what music you listen too and what food you eat. All I ask is that you don't claim that I OWE YOU A LIVING and that you leave ME the f--k alone!

1.5 million dollar house Your estimate keeps going up, dear. It's nowhere near that. Improvements have made the supposed value higher. No matter how you spin it, taxes ARE too high. You seem to defend high taxation and illegal immigration. Why?

His demogoguery falls apart under close examnination because most Latinos are white. NOT true. Most Mexicans are mixed Amerindian and white, with the Amerindian side predominating. Puerto Ricans and Dominicans tend to be mixed African and European. While it is true that most Cubans are white (reflecting the upper and middle classes who fleed Castro), most other Latinos are a mixture of races.

If you pay 7k in property taxes, and the value of your house doubled, and you fixed it up, and bought it in 1996, 1.3 to 1.5 is right on.

The great melting pot is no longer. The "great melting pot" was an invention of the 1920s and was promoted by the liberals of the time. It would after all, be easier to initiate Socialism if we united as "one people." The Right at the time supported immigration restrictions, but could care less what happened in the respective ethnic communities. The leading antiimmigrant group of the time (one that had one of the largest marches on DC in history in the 1920s) had no desire to assimilate the "Koons, Kikes and Katholics," if you know what I mean.

Tell that to my real estate agent, he'll be happy (and so will we if we decide to sell). That's what the houses on the hill are going for.

The poor thing made 700K in housing appreciation, and is bitching about paying 7K a year in property taxes, the lowest property tax rate in the nation. Feel her pain.

How about the fact that todays prominent black culture is full of criminality? For starters.

But the place is worse for the lower middle class. Definitely. That is why they are decamping, and being replaced, by those willing to start at the bottom, and move on up. It is part of the cycle of large metro areas as they mature. My parents live in Palm Beach County Florida, where there is NO native born working class. You have affluent, older whites who hire Haitians, Guatemalans and Mexicans to do the drudge work. A similar situation to what you describe here.
Here in New York, the question has become, "where are they (the white working class) going to flee to now? I live in a neighborhood where houses sell for $400,000 and up, but where the rentals are filled with immigrants, legal and illegal. Anyone who wants a starter home in metro NYC for under $350,000 has to either live in the ghetto (and even this is getting more difficult. Or move WAY out to "Outerwhitelandia." You now have NYPD cops who (illegally) commute 75 miles from Eastern Pennsylvania to NYC. I think that's insane, but its their choice.

Being that most of the shopkeepers in NYC speak poor or no English, all you need to know are numbers and how they relate to the universal language symbolized by the color green.

I'm not all over the map. I don't mince words about how I feel about this issue at all. I think I exhibit more candor than most anyone here. I hate phony facades.
I don't share your optimism about multi-culturalism here.
If Americans recovered the birthrate they once had your argument for immigration repopulation would be moot.
There is absolutely nothing wrong in my view for the predominate founding culture of a nation to seek to preserve it's predominance....not to me anyway.
Especially when I view the track record of these immigration pools which you have such high hopes for.
I do agree with one thing, baring a cataclysm...the die is cast. Not just for when "whites" become only a plurality but rather a minority or are bred out completely ...the latter being what many on the far left and more than a few here on this forum desire....because they resent "white" history of cultural and political dominance here even though that checkered history is arguably both history's most powerful and altruistic.
I obviously do not share that desire..in fact quite the opposite.
As id it matters....I don't want a plethora of any immigrants period to tilt the balance regardless.
It is not simply about whiteness...hardly....there are plenty of unsavory white ethnic groups worldwide I'm not too crazy about...in fact we are in a war with a big chunk of them.

Yes...I thought Compton in 1990 looked pretty middle class to me. There are much worse hoods:
My hometown, Jackson Miss.
Cabrini Green
South Bronx
Bed Sty
East St Louis
Liberty City or Opalocka
etc.
