In 1960, when JFK defeated Nixon, America was a nation of 160 million, 90 percent white and 10 percent black, with a few million Hispanics and Asians sprinkled among us.
We were one nation, one people. We worshipped the same God, spoke the same English language, studied American history and English literature, honored the same heroes, read the same books, watched the same TV shows, went to the same movies and saw ourselves as defenders of Western civilization against the godless communism of the Soviet Empire.
We were confident and proud of who we were. That was yesterday. But due to the Immigration Act of 1965 and the cultural revolution of the '60s, that America is now gone forever. And as one studies the latest projections of the Census Bureau, the America of our grandchildren will be another country altogether, a nation unrecognizable to our parents, a giant Brazil of the North.
In 2050, there will be three times as many people living here as in 1960 -- 420 million. White Americans will be a minority, 49 percent, and falling. Hispanics in the United States, more than 100 million, will be equal to the population of today's Mexico. Our Asian population will be almost as large as our African-American population today.
By countries of origin, America will be a Third World nation. Our cities will look like Los Angeles today. Los Angeles and the cities of Texas, Arizona and California will look like Mexico City.
Writing in Foreign Policy, Harvard Professor Samuel Huntington, author of Who We Are, raises an alarm about the huge infusion of Hispanics into the Southwest, and for many reasons.
Much of this mass immigration is illegal. Vast numbers are coming here only to work. They are not assimilating. They do not want to become Americans. They are concentrating in states bordering Mexico, which is their country and a nation with a historic grievance against us. They are holding on to their language and culture, creating a Hispanic nation within our nation. By 2050, there will be scores of millions of people living here whose loyalty is to a foreign country.
Moreover, as multiculturalism has captured our schools and colleges, immigrant children will have prejudices and grievances against America and the West reinforced as they learn. The academic elite that controls these schools already paints America as a nation with a rancid history of genocide, slavery, racism, oppression and imperialism.
Is the Census Bureau future the future that Americans wish? No. Are they willing to risk it for their grandchildren? No.
Why, then, does that future appear inevitable?
Answer: Though a majority of Americans wish to preserve the land they grew up in for their children, our elites -- political, academic, cultural and corporate -- are either unwilling to conserve that America or indifferent to its disappearance.
Most Americans want immigration cut back and all illegal aliens sent back. Why is the will of the majority, expressed in polls and referenda, not reflected in law or policy? Because we no longer live in a democratic republic; we are ruled by a managerial elite.
America's corporate elites want an endless supply of cheap labor. Our judges throw out popularly enacted laws to which they object. Our academic elites work to see ''white, racist America'' disappear. Our neo-Marxist cultural elites wish to be the gravediggers of the West and of Christian culture. And America's conservative party, the Republican Party, believes that Hispanics hold the key to retention of presidential power and is anxious not to offend Mexican President Vicente Fox.
If, by 2050, the America we grew up in has become a Tower of Babel of squabbling minorities that is falling apart, it will be because of the treason of the elites, and our lack of will to overthrow them.
Again, that is your OPINION.
You specifically said "Buchanan's hero's, the nationalist/socialist Juan Peron". Now show me where Pat ever cited Peron as one his heroes.
How often do you get away such cheap, baseless smears when people don't call you on them?
You're the type that should be banned by Jim, but I won't hold my breath.
I think there is a bit of hyperbole there. When I lived in Florida, the Spanish cable station had commericals constantly on about learning English. Anecdotal maybe, but look at the facts and you will see that English is the lingua franca of the world, especially in business. The French are really pissed about that.
JMO, but I take you above italicized passage as being a little bit strong on Chicken Little.
Well, precisely. And I imagine that many of the pollyannas on this forum don't know about Aztlan (charming how many hispanic people who are becoming our neighbors have a slogan of "For those inside the race, everything. For those outside the race, nothing"), or don't take seriously the threat of the Islamic conversion of America's blacks, in concert with the immigration of radical Islamics into the U.S.
No, I guess there's nothing different about this influx. So what that we'll be a nation of 500 million people towards the end of the century, and no culture will dominate. Everyone will get along. What will save us? The Constitution. After all, it's protection against any concevable ills, isn't it?
Technical Question:........Spanish-American war sword......Best protection for the antique metal?
Renaissance Wax?
At least Buchanan provides a counter-balance to racist comments that have been made by Latinos representing organizations such as MALDEF, LULAC, MEChA, etc., in addition to racist comments that have been made by Latino professors at several U.S. universities, in addition to racist comments that have been made by Latinos serving in Congress and in state legislatures around the U.S., and in addition to racist comments that have been made by representatives of the Mexican government.
Comparing the economic theories of Peron and Buchanan as being similar is not a smear.
Sometimes the sky really is falling.
Good discussion. Gotta run.
Vicente Fox definitely has his own reasons for offering "dual-citizenship" and setting up all the Mexican Consulates where his citizens are expected to go for their identification cards and everything else here in this country. He also insists that no matter how long his citizens live here that they are not subject to American law. The Mexican government is sending over it's textbooks for it's citizens here and many are being taught in all-Spanish classrooms. None of that is about assimilation or learning American values, history or the US Constitution.
Oh you mean such Hispanics such as Congressman Henry Bonilla(R-TX) and Jurist Estrada. I never hear a positive word about them from Buchanan.
Buchanan paints with a broad brush and his painting, IMO, is ugly.
Prove that statement. Give a citation showing Pat has ever said anything approving of Juan or Evita Peron.
It costs California taxpayers billions to support illegal immigration. Why should American taxpayers be given these bills to pay?
Leaving the Cubans aside, the bottom line is that were importing more Democrats into the country.
(Snippet)
After losing control of both houses of Congress in the 1994 election to the Republicans, Clinton embarked on a program to reshape the electorate in a way that was more to his liking. In addition to using his considerable powers of persuasion to win back public support, he set about creating a new American public. The administration directed the Immigration and Naturalization Service to mint new citizens in time to vote in the 1996 elections. Under the direct control of Vice President Gore, the Citizenship USA program was tasked with naturalizing as many noncitizens as they could possibly find in time to participate in the next election.
The plan succeeded. Democrats have eliminated the Republicans majority in the Senate and have significantly eroded their advantage in the House. An analysis of voting patterns across the country shows that voting by new citizens has been the deciding factor in numerous elections, and in nearly every case, has broken to the Democrats advantage.
Well a lot of that has to do with liberal courts and teachers unions, but you can't ignore the evidence that English is the lingua franca of the world.
