Please don't scorn folks with mental conditions. It's no path of roses, for them or their families. Have the same compassion you would for someone suffering from any debilitating illness. They don't ask for it, they don't deserve it, God knows.

Am I the only one who thinks maybe she was setting up a rape scenario to explain away an unwelcome pregnancy?

The person named "Dick" who is making such mean remarks on this thread might want to consider the HELL her family went through during the time this girl was missing.
Sounds to me like the girl had some kind of breakdown.

I feel for her family. Worried for days about her, and now this nightmare.

I still care
(Many people say they want to serve God; but only as an advisor.)

Yes indeed. She needs some help. It is obvious what is going on...she needs some mental health advisors. What she did was wrong...but she does not deserve to be put in jail.
I hope they get her the help she needs.
Sad case indeed.

Thank you for your kind words.
I have a child with a mental illness. They have never done such a thing as this, but they have done many unexplainable things. It is a heart breaking condition. My child too, was an honor student, talented artist and really had the world by the tail. Sadly, they are now, just barely able to function. It has turned our world up side down.
I feel very sorry for these parents. I know all the denial and heart ache they are in for.
Most of the posts in this thread are not helpful, but your words do help.

God knows -- and I think you do, too -- I am not a libertarian.
But mental "illness" is a metaphor, like them, I'm dubious on.
