I guess we belong to a club that no one wants to be in.....I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. The story is very similar to mine. Although my child is not yet on the street. Seems she will stay on the meds long enough to get a bit of sanity....then, of course goes off them and gets worse and worse....it is a horrible, scary roller coaster ride.
I am so, so, sorry your daughter succumbed to her disease. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.

You're right.
As much "fun" as this thrread is, I'm not handling it well.
It's too personal.
So this is me, backing out.
Later, people!

you've gotta be kidding. Didn't they say at the last press conference that there wouldn't be anymore press conferences? Or did i mis-hear that?
To: sinkspur
Her family also needs to apologize to the community for getting them all worked up. For what? Did they do anything wrong? Were they negligent, even? I 'spect they suffered far more than the community, the merchants, or the cops! The girl owes an apology, but not her parents! I have always looked askew at the idea of apologizing on behalf of another. Seems rather arrogant. I'll make my own apologies, thank you!

Hang in there sweetie. You have done the right thing by your daughter and God bless you.

You are certainly describing AS symptoms about your dad. I'm not a doctor but all of the things you say fall in line with the diagnosis.

I read somewhere that there is a very fine line between genius and insanity. Most people with advanced minds have other "issues" as well, sadly. Albert Einstein is a prime example. He didn't know and couldn't learn how to tie his shoe laces or make simple knots. That is just an example of the kinds of problems he suffered. Take solace in the fact that your child borders on genius.

That's so sad...Sharing your story sheds light on what families go through. Education can enlighten some hard headed folks.
Am so sorry to hear what your family has had to go through.

Yep, give all the perps, including her if she lied, a fair trial and a fast hanging (so to speak).

Mental illness always seems to grab onto the brightest and best. I have a genius IQ friend who had a breakdown in college. Said he couldn't stop his thoughts...no sleep, etc. He's a productive member of society now. Has a family and doing well. Don't give up.

Has anybody heard of a treatment that involves a headset with alternating beeps that sound in the ear?
It was used successfully to treat folks with PTSD, and noboyd knows why it works. It isn't for any type of chemical deficiency, but in many cases, it seems to rewire the brain.
I sure wish I could remember the name of the treatment, but maybe it could help some folks reading the thread and dealing with hardships.

You know, we humans can be odd creatures.
If we have a sore arm and we don't know why, we go to the doctor and unashamedly ask for an examination to see if it's a bone problem or a muscle problem.
If we have trouble breathing, we go to see if there's something wrong with our lungs.
But when we become aware that our brain, our most mysterious and complex organ in our bodies doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders, we often withdraw and deny, often out of shame, sometimes confusion, often denial, because someone may call us "crazy."
Some of the attitudes I'm reading on this board, it's not hard to see why.
I haven't followed this case so I won't weigh in on the arguments, but the fact is (and believe it or not these are Howard Stern's words) "mental illness is a cruel and devastating affliction that can utterly destroy you before you even know it has happened."

I was willing to give her some compassion if she had come clean after the first lie. However, she is currently on at least her third and is willing to continue to cost the people of Madison time and money. It's a little harder to give her any sympathy at this point.
