Likely Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry claimed Tuesday night that he's a big fan of rap and hip-hop music.
The straight-laced Beacon Hill blue-blood who married into the $700 million Heinz ketchup fortune told MTV, "I'm fascinated by rap and by hip-hop. I think that there's a lot of poetry in it. There's a lot of anger - a lot of social energy in it."
Kerry said America's leaders disregard rap music at their peril, telling MTV, "I think you better listen to it pretty carefully because it's important."
Asked about some of the more outrageous lyrics in today's rap songs, Kerry replied, "Do I think some lyrics in some songs have stepped over what I consider to be a reasonable line? Yeah, I do."
He then explained, "I think when you start, you know, talking about killing cops or something like that, it bothers me."
Still, Kerry defended the gangsta rap genre, telling MTV, "I'm still listening because I know that it's a reflection of the street and it's a reflection of life. And I understand all that."

What the folks are doing on the other side of the tracks, is always fascinating to you, isn't it, John? It is a veritable modern antropological study, isn't it John? It probably deserves government funding to make sure it is all preserved, isn't it John?

The only thing about the street he understands is that a fire hydrant should be moved down the street 2 blocks so he can have plenty of parking space in front of his Beacon Hill mansion.

He's full of crap. He got caught shilling for undecided voters. I watched the whole thing and heard the MTV reporter say so.

Yeah, that's over the line. But when they're not going over the edge, when they're singing the far more common theme about slapping their bitches and their hos, though, that's "poetry".
Way to pander there, Kerry. Yeah, you're a man of the people. You'll be the second black president any second now.

The picture of him on the bicycle was bad enough...I do not want to see pics of this clown (or hear him singing) "rapping" about putting a "cap" in someone's anatomy while he was serving in Vietnam.

Straight laced? They might want to ask his first wife about that. Blue-blood? I'd say more like "Blue Beard."

Right now, half Kerry's people are frantically buying hundreds of RAP CD's so that Kerry can pick a favorite RAP artist so he doesn't get blindsided when asked.
The other half are busy on the phones calling record companies to make sure that none of their artists ask Kerry to join them onstage to show the world his 'flava'.

This really is the most hilarious moment of the campaign so far, and I thank Kerry for that. I am still laughing.
