no need to wonder now. he has tipped his hand, we all can see where this story is going now (except for Rove, he will be "surprised" 3 months from now when Kerry accuses the Bush campaign of the break in).
To: Sabertooth
Called for investigation. Said Kerry had the most to gain.Going to break.
Excellent.

...he [Nicosia] thinks that the Republicans stole the files as they had the most to gain!
Well, just maybe Nicosia had the most to gain. As in millions of dollars worth of free pre-publication publicity. He can't really ''prove'' that the files were, in fact, stolen. And, if the files were truly stolen, the other side of the equation is who had the most to lose.

Wouldn't the FBI have just sent copies? The actual FBI files must still be at the FBI. The news stories seem to imply "hey, the files are gone now" when in reality, anyone else should also be able to file a "Freedom Of Information" request and also get the files. Maybe that's what they're trying to prevent.

If the job was THAT professional, and they are trying to pin it on the Republicans, then wouldn't it seem logical that whomever the professional is, will plant the files in the posession of a Republican somewhere? I mean, if the intent is to frame, then I see it as a waste of time unless the finish the job. So, I wonder who they will target to frame in this matter.

I was watching Fox and Friends this morning when Nicosia calls in and tells Mike he thinks that the Republicans stole the files as they had the most to gain! Why would anyone need to steal copies? Did he check the back of his kids' newest refrigerator art?

Why would anyone need to steal copies?
Nicosia said that the 14 boxes of files in his possession had taken 11 years to accumulate, and that the three boxes that were stolen were previously unexamined. Various member of the press and the Kerry campaign had been given access to selected docs, and Nicosia said that many of them had handled or touched various boxes, thereby providing an alibi for any fingerprints that turn up later. There's no guarantee the missing files can be replaced in any sort of timely manner, and since Nicosia doesn't know their contents, he'll have no way of knowing that replacement files are identical to the stolen files. See #11 above for details. The FBI needs to locate and secure the originals yesterday. Flagging a few folks who've asked similar questions.

It was unfortunate, the theft of those files. And how can it be a coincidence, with this VVAW thing breaking?!? NOTHING was stolen. This is all a ruse. Nicosia said that the "thief" was a "real pro" and that there was no trace of any break-in. Because there was none. This was staged by Nicosia when he found incriminating documents which he wanted to get out of the way. They kill two birds with one phony stone: the files disappear and they can say that the GOP dirty-tricks brigade stole them to energize their base and lure in the media.
To: OXENinFLA
Rush said Kerry is the only one
who had anything to gain in the
records being "stolen". He did
not say, "Kerry will gain from
it".

Also said the burglary was very professional Well that's your clue - it was the dems. Republicans are amatures at that sort of thing.

Would seem to answer some questions.

On Sept. 18, 1972, the evening before the primary election during his second attempt for Congress, Kerry's brother Cameron and one Thomas Vallely, both part of his current campaign team, were arrested by Lowell police at 1:40 a.m. and charged with breaking and entering with the intent to commit larceny. So what was the disposition of this case? Did he go to jail? Were charges dismissed? How can we find out?
To: Sabertooth
If he obtained these through FOIA he should have an itemized listing in addition to the documents, supplied by the FBI (or whichever agency supplied the photocopies). Also, because of the FOIA process through which photocopies are released, the originals (or at least the releasable portions) are now declassified and obtaining new copies should be possible within 6-8 weeks.
However, if the missing documents didn't come through FOIA, but were simply accumulated from open sources, then Mr. Nicosia (and the country, in general) has learned the value of a copier and not letting untrustworthy folks paw through his collection!
I'm not trying to bust anybody's chops here or discount the work and value of Mr. Nicosia (I know nothing about him and therefore have nothing to base an opinion of him on); I'm just relaying what I know after working in the records management field in the federal government.

Does he know, or need reminding, of the Kerry brother's earlier break-in of an opponent's office?

Why would the RNC risk getting caught in an embarrassing and politically damaging burglary when they could just have some intern diddy-bop over to the National Archives or wherever with a few bucks in hand and get everything they have?Precisely the point I emailed to Fox&Friends as Nicosia segment was on this morning. Weekend guy (sitting in for Doocey, get back on air Steve!) said they would be following the Nicosia story.
