Final proof that Kerry is still stuck in 1971.

Yup. And, Kerry still doesn't believe freedom is worth fighting for...even our own....or that we can win.

We followed Kerry's advice as Congress cut off funding to the South. The result was tens of thousands killed, millions to reeducation camps, tens of thousands of boat people, and a repressive Communist regime that is still in place.

We should seek out John O'Neill today and get him re-involved.

As the old adage goes..."Be careful what you wish".

I read somewhere (probably FR) that something happened to him in the late Seventies that made him swear off politics forever.

He may no longer be a "friendly".

Kerry is saying it's unrealistic for the (then) administration to strive for a non-communist regime in Vietnam.

How frightening is Kerry's worldview when one today looks at the Middle East?

His worldview is easily adaptable today - pull out of the Middle East because we'll never be able to democratize them. Put in "Iraq" for "Vietnam", and it's not much different.

I also love how O'Neil gets hammering Kerry that he's trying to use his military service to get him elected to Congress. Again, not much has changed in 30 years.

Found this about O'Neill in WorldNet Daily article:

Yet for all his want of the spotlight, Kerry avoided public debates with other veterans. On seven occasions, by July 1971, he had refused to allow other veterans to challenge him publicly on television, even when CBS and NBC offered to host formal debates. He relented only when Dick Cavett, who had made him a national figure not long before, agreed to terms Kerry found advantageous. Even then, with Kerry holding all the advantages, Boston Globe political columnist David Nyhan observed, his "scrappy little" opponent, John O'Neill, "was all over Kerry like a terrier, keeping the star of the Foreign Relations Committee hearings ... off balance."

It's like we're stuck in Kerry's own personal time warp

Kerry: It's "hypocrisy" not to include and accomodate the communists in a South Vietnamese "coalition" government. (applause)

I don't like Kerry at all, but that doesn't mean he doesn't come off as the better debater in this interview. For starters, he never lost his cool. O'Neill seemed to be somewhat disconcerted--as would most people with an audience so predisposed to support his opponent. What is really striking to me is the favoritism displayed by Cavett.

That's my $.02. Keep in mind that I was only 9 at the time.

I'd love to hear from Vietnam Viets on this...
I'm a former Marine, 'Nam vet ('67-'68) and I despise John F'in Kerry.
I was watching C-SPAN but it made me so angry I had to turn it off.
The slimy SOB makes me want to take a shower.
Semper Fi ...

Ok, I got my husband out of the tub and made him listen. He was in the 13th division that O'Neil mentioned. He had two swift boat crews assigned to his ship (Coast Guard), his ship left Vietnam as Kerry was arriving. He said that the only complaining and rotating of swift boat crews was because the job was so dangerous. They lost one whole crew and boat while my husband was there, and they didn't have any officers in those crews. He said that the crews of those boats were more or less the screw ups from the Navy. He can't believe what Kerry is saying.

The men who got us into the war were the same men who backed Kerry's anti-war group a few short years later.

That's the nasty fact that still holds true for Kerry today.

He's always been a kept man.

I remember the show when it was first broadcast. I was stationed in Washington at the time in the Navy, after spending a year in Vietnam and an additional 8 months offshore on an LPH. O'Neill has not lost his cool and he was the better debater.

John O'Neil is great. He is doing an awsome job, probably much better than he realized.

Kerry just admitted that he personally requested an early release from service, so he can work against the war!

I heard him say so he could work harder against the war.

Does that mean he was doing things to undermine our troops while he was in theatre???

That one jumped out at me!
