I was waiting for this to go up. We're about t-minus one hour from it (depending on how long Duke-Xavier goes, I guess). Too bad it's not going to be a long interview like Clarke had. I've noticed that 60 Minutes are not promoting this either. The commercial I just saw advertised the story on soccer phenom Freddy Adu, not the story on Rice or Pickering. I also discovered from the link referenced above that Rice spoke to them this morning and not yesterday as I'd heard would be the case before. Bill Kristol predicted this morning that Rice might say that if this is really such a big deal that she'll testify in public under oath as she's been badgered to do. I don't think Bill has a good track record on predicting news, so take that with a grain of salt. By the way, go Xavier-- I had Duke losing before now in my office pool bracket, but my opponents have them winning it all.

They want Condi to testify in public because it's payback for Clinton having to testify - that's all this is. It's a lame attempt by the democrats to try to prove they are still in charge. Everything is payback for what the repubs did to the dems by going after Clinton - everything!!
I would never allow Condi to testify in public - irregardless of what John Kerry or anybody else says. Let'm pound sand.

I missed it, but I'm sure Condi did fine, given the fact that she was on the Propaganda Channel.
Some of the wailers need to get a grip. We are in a marathon, not a sprint.

So, to you, 2000 wasn't close at all. You were never at all concerned. No big deal. We didn't almost have a President Gore at all, eh?
Pah.

It's not that she didn't do fine. It's that she was steamrollered. The White House let CBS completely run this their way--and Condi was the sacrificial lamb. Do you realize that Republicans are being expected to APOLOGIZE FOR 9/11? This is where the line in the sand is being drawn, and the swing vote will be hauled across it in the upcoming months. It's sickening and it shouldn't have been allowed to be done.
This is what the liberals have gotten away with. They are ready to paint the elephant on the WTC wreckage. The outrageousness of it doesn't mean we ought to pretend we don't see it or that it's just another spin.

She's alreadya testified for 4 hours - privately.
Remember - whenever the dems (primarily senators) demand anything from Bush it's because it's payback for what the repubs did to Clinton. That's all it is - petty payback.
However, they also want the President to be subserviant to them (the dems). Let them yell - what else is new!

Very good post. Here! Here!
When are we going to learn that no matter what a conservative does, no matter how wonderful they do their job - the left with twist, lie, distort to diffuse the message of conservatives. And this MEANS ABC, CBS, NBC and the liberal media.
There is nothing in the world we can do to avoid their attacks BUT - DO WE HAVE TO INCREASE THE POWER OF THEIR ATTACKS by replaying the attack over and over on all the conservative talk shows, by allowing the dems to control what we do and allowing them to use terrorist tactics to control us?
All of the flack and distortion - so all of us are wanting Condi to testify in public. Great - this takes away one of the safeguards for the Bush administration and gives more power to the dems.
They cannot edit every word she utters and people are smarter than the Dems think. Cheap shots are seen for what they are.

They already got Tenant & Rumsfeld - and Cheney and the President will be later - privately.
The other reason the President wants to do this privately is because they don't want to be heard critizing Clinton - which they will have to do because Clinton left a mess for them to clean up.

You all are going to LOVE this!
This is from an email from TIME magazine about their next issue.
That terrible photo FoxNews used is also used by TIME in this story.

You're wanting Condi to stoop to the dems level of personal attacks. Condi will not do that. She'll deal with FACTS - not whether or not Clarke made a stupid comment about her. Believe me, that comment has been talked about a lot - and I have not heard one good comment about it. Why should Condi even mention it - she doesn't have to.
The whole world knows that Rand Beers is working for the Kerry campaign - Condi doesn't need to mention that - and why should she - what does that have to do with anything?

Looks like the Clintons are trying to destroy any future for Condi now. A black woman in a powerful position with great experience and credentials - who could possibly be a future presidential candidate. Hillary will not allow this.

BTW, Leslie Stahl must have on the ugliest earrings I've ever seen, even uglier than Ed Bradley's. I didn't see the show but your comment gives a good visual.

Nice cover shot.
Personally, I expect Rice to go up against the Committee and knock 'em dead. Rove has to remember Ollie North. North got lots of mileage out of his testimony. Unfortunately for him, he had some legal baggage that ended up in a felony count. Rice isn't that stupid.
I think that the Bush people are keeping the pot boiling. Some Pubbie Senators have been saying that they should be able to find a way for Condi to testify in public without a subpoena. This hasn't been happening by accident.
The Administration is looking for a way to use Condi in a very public manner. They know that she is good on live TV. She did reasonably well on 60 minutes, from my reading of the transcript. Reasonably well is as good as any Republican is going to get on the Propaganda Network, especially given the efforts of Ed Bradley, professional hack.
She's pissed off and spitting bullets, and I think she wants to go up there and kick some butts. But there has to be a way found for her to take advantage of the element of surprise plus protect Executive Priviledge.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

Well .. I didn't get that impression at all - all Ijaz said was it was "a possibility" Clinton never knew - however, Clinton has admitted he knew about OBL being offered by Sudan.

Incredible as it seems, they were actually fair to Pickering. I guess they decided to throw us a bone after the hatchet job on Rice. This is how they will spin this.
60 Minutes: "How can you accuse us of doing a hatchet job on Dr. Rice? Look how fair we were with Judge Pickering."
