Yeah, use "background" to put out a totally different story than the one that's now being given $10MM in promo from the partisan media on issues of profound national importance. And Fox should just look the other way.

Kerrey showing his true colors.
To: hobbes1
This is sorting out quickly to the left vs. the right. In media and every other way.
Lord, we have have a civil war soon.

Again, I gotta be contrarian here.
FOX broke journalistic ethics here. If this was an on the air briefing, they are free to re release it. However, it is extremely unethical to take a background interview and release it to damage somebody.
Who is going to talk to FOX now off the record, if they are going to leak it when they think it will make a splash.
Background interviews are akin to speaking off the record. They are not to be released. They could work around it by diggin out Clarke saying something similar to what he told them, but FOX screwed up here.
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but FOX will not even get Republicans now to speak on background, if they know FOX will do this when they decide it's newsworthy.
To: prairiebreeze
So because it was BACKGROUND information you can LIE about the content? Amazing.
Can't wait for round 2 with Thompson.

Wants to question the intentions of Fox News report but takes Clarke's book as fact.

Virginia doesn't have party registration, and I'm pretty sure we don't party ballots either - so what the heck is Clarke talking about when he says that he asked for a Republican ballot in the 2000 election? Did he mention VA? If so, this needs to be brought to someone's attention if true.
He sure did - he voted in Virginia, he said

No, the white house didn't issue this tape. This tape was in the hands of the media since 2002! The white house gave the go-ahead for Jim Angle to make public this tape of Clarke.

I think as a nation we are divided more along party lines than race or class. It's becoming more clear every day.

"Bob Kerrey just squandered his creditibility by slamming FOX for the briefing transcript. The White House issued this as I understand it..."
lol lol Bob Kerrey did not have any to begin with, after all he told us that bjclinton was a liar and a very good one and did not do one thing to change the "INTEL" gathering status while on the INTEL Committee.
To: Jewels1091
LOL. Yep, he was, apparently, God's gift to government.

they started off by saying there were a ot of distraction today and just moved on.
Thompson, Lehman and Fielding all aggressively addressed the issue. The dems as usual are ignoring the whole obvious contradiction.
At first they dismissed it, I missed the posts with the questioning was only skimming posts. :(
To: TomGuy
Geez, Clarke not only fails to substantively flesh out or back up any of his "sexy" anti-Bush(Rice/Wolfowitz/etc) spin and rhetoric, he's toppling lefty myths one after the other. E.g. Michael Moore's dark conspiracy about the Saudi evacuation flight is bunk, and preemption is good policy. He's even called for a "secret police" (domestic security service -- not that I agree with that one).
I think we're going to see a lot of leftists backing away from their new hero (even while absurdly and selectively trying to hype and maintain exactly those of his claims which have the least substance and policy import).
