LM here.

It's been a while since we had a thread along these lines.

I can tell from comments I am seeing in threads, on abuse reports, and in Freepmail that some people are unhappy with various policies and their implementations by the staff here.

I've seen allegations that certain factions are picked on. I've seen allegations that the moderators have killed activism. I've heard rumors that we killed Kenny, and even that we killed the radio star. I see certain personality conflicts acting up, and know that one (or both) sides in it feel that we aren't doing what we should.

So let's open this can of worms.

This thread is for making your grievances heard. If you think something stinks or is wrong, make your case here. Back it up with facts. Let the audience at large weigh in on your evidence.

I'll read the thread. Jim will too in all likelihood. So will the other moderators. Depending upon how well you make your point, and depending on if you can convince Jim, me, the other moderators, and/or the world, maybe you can change things. And if you don't, then it might make you feel better to have vented, so it won't make this thread a total loss.

I'm not going to reply to this thread for quite a while. Rather, I am going to sit back and watch to try and get a feel for the general tenor. I encourage those who are both happy and unhappy with things to particpate in this thread.

Let's rock.

PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain was suspended for continuous Catholic bashing on a completely unrelated thread to the one which you mention; it had nothing at all to do with NES.

On the other matter, attempts were made to pull the offending remark on the NES, but it had gotten so long that the system simply wasn't working. It was then that you all were asked to begin a new thread because the long one was unmanageable. Nothing that was tried worked.

First of all, I don't know that I ever claimed to be all that fair.

That was your choice of wording, not mine.

It is intended as a place for like-minded conservatives

Like minded being Republican, not conservative. There is a wide chasm of a difference between the two anymore and you know it.

For instance, you might say I'm unfair to anyone who tries to rob me of my God-given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and or of my rights to freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of religion, right to keep and bear arms, etc, etc, etc. These people are domestic enemies of the constitution and I don't want them around.

Why would I say that? If I did that would make me a Democrat or (for the majority) a Republican.

I'm probably also unfair to anyone whose ideas are repugnant to me. Examples: (not meant to be an exclusive list) communists, nazis, fascists, skin-heads, white supremacists, white separatists, white nationalists, anti-semites, religious bigots, racists, etc, etc. I simply do not want to be associated with these types.

Fantastic, I don't fall into any of those categories even remotely. No problem there.

And to varying degrees, I'm probably also unfair to those who are tying to erode away our traditional American freedoms and way of life to advance their own political agendas. Examples: socialists, liberals, progressives, democrats, RHINOs, abortionists, feminists, homosexualists, atheists, environmentalists, one-worlders, anti-war peaceniks, pacifists, gun-grabbers, UN lovers, America haters, God haters, etc, etc, etc.

Again, not one of those descriptions describes me in the least.

And you might say I'm probably unfair to DUh trolls, anti-FReeper trolls, Euro-trolls, obscenity trolls, cyber vandals, stalkers, disruptors, etc, etc, etc.

Once again, nothing applies, but by now you get the point.

And you might possibly say that I favor people who have been with FR for a long, long time, even though we may no longer see eye to eye on certain issues, but because we've been through the wars together there is a kinship bond and a certain camaraderie, etc, so, yeah, they're probably gonna get some leeway and may not receive a ban or a suspension quite as quickly as an errant newbie.

And here is the crux of the matter. Camaraderie is great, up to the point where it becomes silliness. What you allow nopardons to get away with is ridiculous. I have a very, very, very thick skin. However, I have read the most vile and putrid things written from this lady (and I use this term very lightly) over and over again with no consequences whatsoever. You want people to follow your rules here? I have no problem with that. Just make sure you spell them out for all to understand and not just a chosen few. If you want people to rally to your cause, don't create sixth grade cliques. Nobody liked them at twelve and no one needs to join them now.

They're "Guidelines" not "Rules." I'm not a cop. I don't want a lot of rules that MUST be enforced. I don't like racism, or profanity or personal insults/attacks, etc., but it's subjective. Pull, suspend, ban, etc, will often depend on the severity of the abuse and or whether the poster involved is a repeat offender, etc. I pulled the thread in question and it will remain pulled. I don't like people ragging on the forum and or the FReepers and you seem to be doing that a lot lately. A whole lot.

The basic question is this: Is FR a republican site, or a conservative, anti-corruption in government site?

This is the question that needs to be continually addressed. We may run into more fair use trouble if this site seems to tie itself to one party and bans dissenting voice.
