Socialists claim Spanish victory
March 15, 2004
SPAIN'S opposition Socialist Party today claimed victory in the nation's general election and said it was in a position to form a government.
An official count of 77 per cent of the ballots showed the opposition Socialists (PSOE) with a clear lead.
The ruling Popular Party (PP) had 37.1 per cent of the vote and the Socialists 43.1 per cent, the interior ministry said.
The turnout stood at 77 per cent.

"At any waypoint along the path of the Grand Narrative over the course of 2500 years, you find our most important thinkers bemoaning the death of virtue, the fall of the old pure ideals, and the imminent collapse of Western Civ. It still hasn't happened you will note."
That is because in the past the nations of the west had birth rates above replacement. At least during communism, while it did challenge the west, there were not millions of communists immigrating to the west to undermine it from within.

The good news is that they can't always tell time, as evidenced by "work accidents" caused by idiot jihadis setting their bombs to go off while on route to their intended targets.
Wouldn't that be amusing if in their glorious afterlife, they have to listen to loud, continous ticking.

Well you're right, it is different. But I would argue that it was worse and harder in the Cold War, because Marxism was an idea that up to the end was gaining increased popularity among our own people.
This struggle is intellectually, a thousand times easier than the struggle against Marxism. Marxism has always had "redeeming" virtues that play on our Western sensibilities and needs.
Radical Islam offers nothing that is attractive to Westerners. The extent of Western animosity and militancy against radical Islam will vary over time, but we will never be faced with the prospect of actually losing to it from within. Arresting Muslim immigration is a smaller task than resiting the Red Army at any rate.

I don't think the people of Afghanistan have been served very well by our war there, but this morning Rumsfeld and Powell were talking about the freedom there, so maybe I've been wrong.

Nah, we're doing the right thing there. But it's not exactly a sun-tan "bask" in the light of liberty at the moment. Looks more like a sun-burn.

It isn't that bad. While the socialist victory is bad news, they didn't win by a landslide. In fact, they didn't even poll a majority of the vote. Chances are, they will be voted out of power in the next election.

The majority of Americans are sheeple who vote with their hearts and not with their brain. Republicans would be wiped out if the apathetic turned out to vote. I agree. The people in this country are so wrapped up in themselves it's rediculous. Actually, it's downright scary... We have so much that is taken for granted. Someday the people are going to wake up one morning and wonder what in the hell happened...

95% of Europe is against war. Period. It's why they were overrun by a madman in WWII. They are cowards. It has been so for over 50 years. They are Neville Chamberlains and have not learned that appeasement does not work.
You sound as though you think appeasement with the terrorists does work. Would you prefer to treat terrorism as a law enforcement matter or a military matter?
Hint: Considering that most terrorists blow themselves up or die with the airplanes they have commandeered for their madness, just what would law enforcement do?

Two points:
One the war istn about the people of afganistan it is about destroying those responsible for 9/11
Secondly: Why in the world would you think the purpose of the war was the people of afganistan and why do you think they were better off under Taliban rule?

What do my thoughts have to do with the fact that 95% of the Spanish people opposed the war in Iraq?

Would you peple relax man. Spain is not going to withdraw from the WOT. Read Zapatero's statements on terrorism. He was criticized within his party earlier this year for SUPPORTING Aznar's policies on ETA.
This is no victory for AQ, it's purely a cosmetic change.
To: empirekin768
Actions speak louder than words. I'll wait and see. And anyways, the Spanish electorate have served to encourage terrorists to disrupt elections with spectacular mass murder bombings. I find the whole thing depressing and disgusting.

It will be a victory if Al Qaeda thinks it is a victory.

Sorry to be melodramatic, but let's make sure this gets read, becuase it's very important:
"My immediate priority will be to fight all forms of terrorism"
