"Police probing the Madrid terrorist attacks found a van with detonators and an Arabic-language tape with Koranic verses, and officials don't rule out any line of investigation, Interior Minister Angel Acebes said."

Is it possible that ETA might have left the tape in the van as a ruse to divert attention from them?

Until I hear what's on the tape I'm unsure who may be responsible for this carnage, although I will admit that I'm leaning toward the islamists.

Prayers for the families.

Thanks. I had a gut feeling about this when I saw it on this morning's news.

Yep, they are looking for soft targets.

May G-d comfort all who mourn among our allies.

This attack is not ETA, different style. ETA has denied it and usually they come forward and admit it.

I don't claim to be an expert on the Basques, but I agree. From all that I know, this doesn't have their fingerprints on it. They tend to go after politicans.

Since when is Spain the great satan? Why wasnt I informed of this change?

Gee, didn't Spain just have it's first new mosque in 500 yrs built somewhere near Granada? Just a coincidence, I'm sure (sarcasm). Move along, nothing to see here....

CNN finally have it up on their website as breaking news, but no additional details.

"Spanish interior minister says new line of Madrid blast investigation opened after police find van with detonators and Arabic-language tapes. Details soon."

NEWSMAX has more detail:

Detonators and Arabic Tape of Verses From Koran Found Near Madrid

Thursday, March 11, 2004
MADRID, Spain – Police probing the Madrid terrorist attacks found a van with detonators and an Arabic-language tape with Koranic verses, and officials said they were not ruling out any line of investigation.
The van was found in the town of Alcala de Henares outside Madrid after a tip from neighbors. On the front seat police found seven detonators and the tape, Interior Minister Angel Acebes told a news conference.

"Because of this, I have just given instructions to the security forces not to rule out any line of investigation," Acebes said.

Maybe Al Qaeda is too decimated and another, similar group is responsible.

Fox says Al Qaeda claims it.

"Ali Ibn Abi Talib encountered a man called 'Umru and told him, `I indeed invite you to Islam.' 'Umru said, `I do not need that.' 'Ali said, Then I call you to fight.' (This was the same policy Muhammad used with those who rejected his invitation.) 'Umru answered him, `What for my nephew? By God, I do not like to kill you.' `Ali said, `But, by God, I love to kill you"' (ibn Hisham, "The Biography of the Prophet", part 3, p. 113; see also Al Road Al Anf part 3, p. 263).

ETA is a standalone organization that does not need resources from anyone. the ETA cause is independence for the Basque region of Spain, they have no religious issues.
