[history]
Sherry Hattaway was taking students from Pasco Middle and High Schools in Lacoochee, Fla., home last Thursday afternoon when a four-foot alligator crossed the road and went into a field, reports the St. Petersburg Times.
"Can we catch it? Can we catch it?" asked some of the 11 kids on board, according to Jimmie Scroggins, father of two riders.

If your son were on the bus and he had been bitten and drowned while chasing the gator would you still be feeling the same way? I bet you would already be at your lawyer's office.

That was just the Pre-Test (F-Kitty). Wait till that have to take the FGAT and the Gator is 8' Long!
Will they still be able to capture in under 15 minutes! or will they fail the test and lose a digit?
I love it!
Let boys be boys...Steve Irwin would be proud. Crikey, she's a beeeauty!

You've been around here long enough to know the protocol for posting headlines. You're so vain.

It's kind of amazing what sometimes happens when you're supervising kids. They are pretty good at talking you into things sometimes...
I used to teach Jr. High at a private school, and I took the whole class (25 kids) down to a creek to catch bugs for their insect collections. We had to cross a busy street, slip down a steep enbankment, and try to avoid poison oak.
One kid actually got poison oak.
We had fun, though, and no one was hurt (seriously hurt, anyway, we had a few scrapes and bruises)
Granted, this isn't letting them catch an alligator, but I know it wouldn't have been allowed at a public school.

"I dropped a cat in an upright sewer pipe of about 4" diameter and 4' height when I was 8; my mom had about the same sense of humor as you seem to have."
Doesn't sound humorous to me, either. When I was 8, I had more sense than that.

A fifth boy happened to have a roll of electrical tape handy, which took care of keeping the reptile's jaws shut. I think this is my favorite part of the story.
"Be prepared."

My bus driver was nowhere NEAR this cool! We drove through a northern urban environment. No alligators... Though he did stop for a hooker once. That was pretty cool.

FIVE boys against a four foot alligator? In a field, no less (not in the water). This went more to making them into men that 10,000 hours of study under Naomi Wolfe.
