[history]
Sherry Hattaway was taking students from Pasco Middle and High Schools in Lacoochee, Fla., home last Thursday afternoon when a four-foot alligator crossed the road and went into a field, reports the St. Petersburg Times.
"Can we catch it? Can we catch it?" asked some of the 11 kids on board, according to Jimmie Scroggins, father of two riders.

Sounds like a woman who knows how to let boys have fun.

Probably the best part of their education that day.

Oh, my goodness! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Obviously, very poor judgement on the bus driver's part. However, what fun for the boys!
(I know - it was stupid. Any flames will be ignored. It was still cool, though.)

Hey, no one was hurt, no harm done.

God bless women who don't want to turn boys into girls. They are so rare these days...and what's with this wussy father???

Hmmm. I'm all for boys having great fun, but if anything had happened to one or more of those boys there would be h*ll to pay. The bus driver should have considered the dangers involved and told them to catch gators on their own time, imho.

Very true.

Those boys have some stones. I grew up in Gator Country, and a four footer ain't no gecko.

If the mouth was taped up then nothing would have happened which is why the bus driver probably caved in. Too bad. THe boys will remember this for a long time *LOL*

"If the facts I'm hearing are true, then at the least she used some of the worst judgment someone could use in endangering kids," said Pasco schools superintendent John Long. Oh, what a killjoy. It's not like she let the alligator drive or anything.

Fun is fun but what were those boys gonna do with it? Gators are protected I think and this one was just going across the road to have a smoke or something. The driver will probably lose her job and the boys will get some animal rights group camping out in the driveway and possibly a citation from the Dept of the Interior for a court appearance along with a fine for Dad...not worth it I'd say.

I dropped a cat in an upright sewer pipe of about 4" diameter and 4' height when I was 8; my mom had about the same sense of humor as you seem to have.

Alligator farms were so successful that alligators are no longer on the endangered species list. They aren't evenl isted as "threatened".

As a junior in HS, we took a field trip to the Okefenokee (thanks for the spell checker, FR) swamp in Georgia.
We captured some cotton mouth moccasins and assorted other critters for the biology lab.
I can think of at least 5 different things the teacher would have gotten in trouble for on that field trip if it had been today Lets see, endangering children, capturing animals, poisonous snakes in class room, no guide, no trip plan (we just went), no parental permission slips, on and on and on. You know what, tho, I learned a lot about swamps and my self, wading through belly deep swamp water, and slightly scared.

BOULDERDASH!! You people are missing the point on all fronts. At issue is not whether the kids were endangered, but whether or not the alligator was endangered!
This woman should be tarred and feathered! First, she advocated the torture and humiliation of a defenseless alligator by a gang of hoodlum white males. THEN she allowed these hoodlums to remove the poor animal from it's natural habitat, further causing stress to the poor creature.
THEN she let them off scot-free to put the animal in a gas-guzzling pickup truck. It was probably owned by some redneck, klansman who votes for republicans!

He took the gator out to the nearby Withlacoochee River ... Indian for "the place where women bathe."
