C-Span

The Gun Manufacturers Liability Bill just failed by a vote of 8-90. Now there are no worries about the AWB (for now!).

I see your point, but I still have problems with ignoring the Tenth Amendment when it suits my political needs, then criticizing democrats when they do the same thing.
I also know it will hurt the bottom line, but gunmakers are not forced to do business in states where they are exposed to these types of suits.
To: epow
That being said, I'll still be happy if it passes.

Professional politicians are among the worst vermin on the face of the earth and it matters little what party they call home. They generally give prostitution a bad name; so much so that a $50 street hooker displays more honesty then the $10 million Senator. This whole affair reeks of game-playing and the whole damn lot of 'em are part of the problem. Every one of the scumbags has now gotten what he/she wanted: campaign year rhetoric with which to fool the "folks back home" once again.
On top of that, they ALL took a hell of a lot of money from a series of PACs including the NRA-ILA, GOA, AGS, The Brady Boob/Million Morons, and the best (and biggest spenders of them all) the LAWYERS PACs. In the end the only people who "won" are the Senators themselves and the big money lawyers. As a professional group, lawyers' PACs spend the most money "buying" the whores in Congress.
Everybody is bitching about something in this little episode; at the end of the day, not one damn thing was won or lost in terms of the "culture wars" or the RKBA, or the War on Freedom; every issue that the bastards voted on is still viable one way or the other; nothing is ever "dead" with any certainty in politics. Its like the King Vampire; no matter how many times you think you've finally knocked him off, he always manages to "come back from the grave" for one more atrocity.
The blood-suckers in the Senate know this; unfortunately, there is no wooden stake big enough to drive through the heart of that monster known as the US Senate so as to end our misery once and for all. No, all this crap will be back in one form or the other - evil never sleeps and politics is the very essence of evil incarnate.

Can you explain to me what exactly happened today?
Last I looked the AWB amendment passed and I thought it was then to go back to the House where I hoped the Hammer would drive a stake thru it's heart.
Thanks in advance.

Nope. Not when a governmental study can be extended into the next millennium.Would it not be a problem if Hillary's AG was to take part in said study?

If Teddy's Bill had passed, we would have had two years or more to debate and study the consequences of a 30-30 penetrating a level I vest. If Teddy's Bill had failed, Craig and Frist would have killed their own bill.
All that wouldn't have taken place because the NRA and the Republicans would kill 1805 before they would let an amendment like Teddy's become law.

And .. the repubs have put the dems ON THE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD FOR BEING AGAINST UNFAIR GUN LAWSUITS, and voting against the bill they had loaded with amendments. This is just too cool. First off, the Republicans aren't smart enough to do anything as devious as what you are suggesting. Further more all of the amendments had Republican authors or sponsers so Republicans voted to add all of the amendments. The Dems would have been on the Congressional Record as being against gun lawsuits if they would have just passed the clean bill. Also you have a ton of Republicans voting against outlawing the gun lawsuits. Which makes great ads for the Dems, I can see it now "Kerry and 89 other members of the Senate, including x Republicans, voted to let people recover money from negligent gun companies, why does the President keep pushing this extreme gun agenda?" The Dems played the Republicans like fiddle throughout this debate. There is no Republican leadership in the Senate.
Don't forget that there were ten Republicans who voted for the bill along with Feinstein, and Boxer. Whatever defeats we can send the Democrats need to include these Republican enemies as well:
Chafee R-RI,
Collins R-ME,
DeWine R-OH,
Fitzgerald R-IL,
Gregg R-NH,
Lugar R-IN,
Smith R-OR,
Snowe R-ME,
Vonovich R-OH,
Warner R-VA

Craig and Frist would have killed their own bill. And we have their holy word on that, right? Frist is notorious for his deal-cutting with Tennessee Democrats, and Craig and the NRA are no better.

"the Republicans aren't smart enough"
Sorry .. the above statement only shows how ignorant YOU are.
The Senate Republicans aren't smart. They have let the deomcrats run the show from day one and there is a total lack of leadership by the Republicans in the Senate. They were not setting up the Dems and the Republicans just got played, straight and simple. If they wanted to set up the Dems, they would have voted as a block against all amendments to get Democrats on record on being against tort reform for gun laws. Then Frist would have let the AWB and all the other crap come to a vote as a package on the floor and let the dice fall where they may. Seeing that Delay would be on the conference committee or help Hastert pick the committee and he can control what comes out. This was just poor leadership by Frist and the Republicans.

The Brady Bunch has reason to be happy because they have retained their strategy of using civil suits as a weapon to attempt to crush firearms makers...It seems to me that that weapon could cut both ways. Any idea why we haven't been hearing about countersuits for filing the frivolous lawsuits?

There is no requirement that an amendment be germane. Several amendments to this bill certainly were not germane, for example one would have extended unemployement benefits. A amendment can be quickly killed or ruled out of order if it is not germane to the underlying bill. I have seen this happen many times.
It's also the reason Cantwell's unemployment extension amendment went down.

Look, the NRA is owned and operated by its lobbyists, PR firms, and other vendors that have a lot of snarky little tie-ins with NRA full-time managers. For the NRA's lobbyists, staying on the sunny side of Little Tommy is a lot more important that anything like, say, forestalling gun bans.
The actual "members" of NRA are seen at National as a bunch of chumps whose duty is to send money, and STFU, while the NRA sells off public liberties for the private gain of insiders.
In fact, for the NRA, bad legislation is good for business because it drives membership and fund-raising up.
How many of the 12 Republican Senators who support all three Democratic amendments are rated B+ or higher by the NRA? I bet at least 10. I bet five of them are A rated, and here they are voting for gun confiscation.
If you are concerned about gun rights, the NRA is not your voice in Washington. While the Daschle case is a particularly egregious one, it's a lot worse at the state and local level. Ask anybody who has fought for right to carry legislation around the country how much use the NRA was, and they'll probably ask you, "to which side?"
The NRA position was betrayed by Daschle here. Who thinks they will use that word in direct mail to South Dakotans? Nope. Direct mail is coming, but it will talk about the fight ahead and the need to spend money -- which they will beg YOU to send, and which they will spend on both sides, you can be sure about that.
