HUH? These were homicide bombers not rockets. Not sure if a patriot battery will stop some bearded freak carrying a load of C4 in his shorts.

Remember, Kat, that the press and our enemies know just how this plays in the western press. They pay mobs of young people to throw these stones and bottles, and they do not represent the people of Iraq, only a small %, with parents like those who would strap suicide vests to their own children and send them off to die.

RC the press had nothing to do with what occured in Iraq yesterday. If they showed that clip once or more than once I would still feel the same way against the individuals that are responsible, not an entire race of people. And no one is blaming an entire race of people. It is the Iraqi people that are being killed. And I am well aware that this goes much deeper than what is occuring in Iraq.

Huh no, not all were suicide bombers kinghorse. I thought that they were also. But after hearing Mansoor Ijaz and afterward seeing a replay of a clip of U.S. Brigadier General Mark Kimmit I see that it was more than suicide bombers.

140 Die in Multiple Attacks Near Shi'ite Shrines in Iraq (now up to 271 dead)

.U.S. Brigadier General Mark says the attacks in the center and outskirts of Karbala were caused by a suicide bomber, mortars and hidden explosives. Six suspects have been apprehended. He says the attacks in Baghdad were also carried out by suicide bombers.

Mon Mar 1, 5:44 AM ET BAGHDAD, Iraq - A large explosion was heard Monday in central Baghdad and appeared to have come from the vicinity of the headquarters of the U.S. occupation authority.

Shortly after the blast, a Black Hawk helicopter circled over the green zone, the U.S. compound that includes Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s former Republican Palace and serves as headquarters of the U.S.-led coalition.

Saddam guarded his Iraqi Info Ministry more than his own army.

Our enemies do know the power of the press, and they know the western press will hype every attack.

I know it was a pre-planned, coordinated attack, involving serious lowlifes.

I know that our enemies use our press to undermine our war efforts. Al Jazeera sets up cameras before attacks! AP quotes our enemies. This is NOT the usual war coverage, pre-Vietnam - when the press actually understood who paid the price for their freedoms.

This press corps can't even tell whose trustworthy - Aristides, or Rummy, Baghdad Bob or Paul Wolfowitz, Saddam Hussein or President Bush.

I could make the case for you, Kat. Just download the detailed security and humanitarian reports from CENTCOM, and read what OUR free press neglected to tell the world about the work being done in Iraq - for 11 months and counting....that not even the Iraqis and troops stationed in one area knew was occuring next door - what they got was the daily AP litany of doom.

I don't want to argue this one with you, Kat. I promise, this is one sick press....from journalism school - to David Westin sitting on AP's board. They are pro-UN, pro-France, pro-socialist, anti-American power, anti-war, anti-GOP, anti-Bush...anti-God.

Iraq Insurgents Launch Attack on U.S. Base

By PAUL GARWOOD, Associated Press Writer

TIKRIT, Iraq - Insurgents launched four mortars at the 4th Infantry Division's base in Tikrit on Wednesday, including one that landed near a dining hall during supper time. No one was hurt.

Five large explosions also rumbled through the center of Baghdad Wednesday night, and sirens sounded from the Green Zone where the headquarters of the U.S.-led occupation authority is located. The U.S. military press office said it had no information about where the blasts occurred.

In Tikrit, the 4th Division's commanding officer, Maj. Gen. Raymond Odierno, told The Associated Press mortars were fired at the riverfront base from the opposite side of the Tigris River.

One of the mortars landed yards from the base's crowded dining facility but didn't explode. The other two exploded in unoccupied areas.

Bomb disposal soldiers defused the unexploded shell, along with another that failed to explode.

Soldiers saw three men running from the vicinity the mortars were fired from and into a house in a village near Ajiel, a town about a mile from Tikrit, according to Lt. Col. Steve Russell, commander of the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division.

Soldiers surrounded the house but it wasn't immediately clear if any arrests were made, Russell said.

Tikrit is the hometown of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and is located in the Sunni triangle, a hotbed of anti-American activity.

The 4th Infantry Division, which has operated in Tikrit and throughout most of northern Iraq for about a year, has launched an aggressive campaign to root out insurgents and destroy stockpiles of weapons believed to be used in attacks against coalition soldiers.

The division is in the process of redeploying to the United States and is being replaced by the 1st Infantry Division, in Germany.

Thanks RC, because I have no intention with arguing about this or anything else with you, especially when what I posted had nothing to do regarding the press, the good, the bad or the ugly.

We have 110,000 troops coming to Iraq, 130,000 leaving in the next few months - 4000 on those dangerous roads now regularly between Kuwait and Iraq among 23 million newly freed Iraqis (+ the Iranian "pilgrims"), and we only lost 4 Soldiers between Feb. 20 and March 2, 3 due to accidents, though pilots who recovered the downed helicopter say a wire was strung across the river....not accidental....still, hardly a nation in chaos, or overtly hostile to our forces.

What others in this area are saying:

4ID troops, recently home:

Welcome home, honey ~* Fort Carson update
Gazette.com - Colorado Springs  | Feb. 25, 2004 | Tom Roeder and Andrea Brown

The battle lines weren’t always clear in Kirkuk, the northern Iraqi city patrolled by Ulmer and the other soldiers in his brigade.

“One day they’d be shooting at people, and the next day they’d be handing out clothes for orphans,” said Capt. Steve Power.

Being at war didn’t always mean the soldiers could be warriors.

“They (guerrillas) would pay kids to come and protest at the base and then they would start shooting from behind the kids,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Eli Thomas.

The soldiers didn’t return fire then — or on count- less other occasions when pulling the trigger could have meant killing civilians, he said.

“In our country, we went through slavery, women’s liberation and all of those changes,” Thomas said. “It all takes time. It will take Iraq time, too, but potential is all you see in Iraq.”

The soldiers also saw poverty — hungry Iraqis living in mud huts without electricity or water.

“I learned to be thankful for everything I have,” said Sgt. Howard DeJean. “They are so less fortunate over there.”

For many of the soldiers, much of what they’re thankful for was waiting for them in a gymnasium at the post.

Staff Sgt. Mark Miller saw his 6-month-old son, Mason, for the first time.

Our Freeper Cate, with permission:

From Cate | 02/24/2004

My husband and I are currently in Colorado Springs Colorado waiting for our son to arrive in the advance party for the 4th ID. He is due in this evening and we can't wait. We have enjoyed the company of some of the wives ( our son is single) and these ladies have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make sure each soldier is welcomed home in a grand way. What a great country we live in.

... we helped get everything for the guys ready this morning. The quarters where they are assigned are brand new. We helped the soldiers that are recovering from wounds and have been on the base several weeks haul in blankets, sheets, pillowcases and pillows for the soldiers. It was fun to hear their stories of Iraq, every single one without fail had a positive spin on their experiences. Then we went and helped the young wives finish up the goodie bags. Each soldier is getting a prewashed towel, wash cloth, soap, toothbrush, and condoms. As a mom of a single son, I did well not to raise my eyebrows at the condoms...ahhahaaaa. At least the gals were thinking safety first. The hall that we will be greeting the guys tonight is all decorated with banners and ribbons. My husband is taking pictures of the whole event. Alot of the little kids got to take today off from school and they were just full of life and very excited that their dads are coming home. And you can share any info you want that I've given you. Its all public knowledge, so we won't be compromising their safety. Wahooo........Oh, and there is a sack of snacks and sodas for each soldier, pure pleasureable American junk food...

From Allegra, from nr. Sunni triangle, today:

This is the birth of a new Iraq," said council member Mouwafak al-Rabii, a Shi'ite Muslim physician, author and human rights activist.

Big steps forward. You won't hear it in CNN, but the majority of the people are quite delighted with the changes that are slowly taking place and they know full well who is responsible for that.

They say glowing things about "Mr. Boosh."

Don't buy it Ijaz's take at all.

I'd look at Saudi Arabia too. The MO of the attacks was pure Alqaida and in line with their stated goal of provoking a civil war in Iraq and they hope, in Pakistan.

Sistani is actually antagonistic to the imam led theocracy of Iran. His is a more traditional shiaism that while seeking to have a religious influence on society, does not feel the need to dominate in a manner the clerics do in Iran.

Of course he has ties to Iran. What pap. Doesn't Ijaz have ties to jihadis? and the Pakistani military, elements of which actively support alqaida.

More selfserving spin from Ijaz designed to deflect attention from Saudi.

Funny how he says nary one itsy bitsy negatory word about the Saudis.
