Senate debate on the gun manufactures liability bill will begin at 9:30 this morning on C-Span2. Expect Feinstein to attach her Assault Weapons Ban renewal rider on it. Also McCain may attach a rider closing the so called "gun show loophole". This is it folks.

Agreed, if they pass a blanket type ammunition ban and try to enforce such a ban than they have crossed the line into deadly ground that will not be tolerated. They are trying to get to the point that only government agencies are armed and equiped with armor and the civilian population has no means of stopping anyone with use of small arms. That defeats the purpose of the second amendment which is not about sport hunting or target shooting. Those in power fail to realize that the second amendment was not just about tyrany from outside our borders, but from tryrany within our borders.

The Swimmer claimed only "armor piercing" ammo, but then defined it in such a way that it would ban any centerfire ammo, at the discretion of the Attorney General. Which could be Jackboot Janet II come next January 20th.

Voting for Bush is, of course, better than voting for any of the dems, and refusing to vote in protest is not an option. This leaves me with Bush for November 2004 no matter what.

Reasoning like that is exactly why the Republicans WILL pass utter garbage and send it on to Bush for signature. They'll pass it in order to get some other bill that lines their brother-in-law's pockets, or something equally offensive and corrupt, because they know that you won't even stay home - let alone vote for someone else - no matter what they do.

If it contained the provisions you say it does, I think the California senator would be bragging about those provisions, too.

I haven't seen the actual text of either the Boxer amendment or the Kohl secondary amendment to the Boxer amendment, so I don't know for sure. I also wouldn't necessarily trust Boxer's website 100%. But I think if there were provisions for fines for gun owners in what passed, she would be taking credit for that.

Also, both Senator Boxer and Senator Kohl said that this amendment, as amended by the Kohl secondary amendment, was identical to some legislation passed by the Senate (but not the House) in 1999. I'm trying to search for that now, but I don't remember which specific bill they referred to.

Great. So, if I understand this correctly, the Dems will tack on an amendment so the Pubs will be voting against the unemployed if they don't pass this bill - which is likely to make us felons.

This only requires that a lock be included in all new gun purchases, something the manufacturers are already doing, and a lot cheaper "insurance" than continuing to fight the lawsuits. This is a "no-cost" amendment.

I've also pointed out several times that we shall see exactly how bad it is when the text gets posted to thomas.loc.gov tomorrow.
