Agreed, if they pass a blanket type ammunition ban and try to enforce such a ban than they have crossed the line into deadly ground that will not be tolerated. They are trying to get to the point that only government agencies are armed and equiped with armor and the civilian population has no means of stopping anyone with use of small arms. That defeats the purpose of the second amendment which is not about sport hunting or target shooting. Those in power fail to realize that the second amendment was not just about tyrany from outside our borders, but from tryrany within our borders.

So would this ban all those calibers? 30-06, .270, .300 etc.?? The Swimmer claimed only "armor piercing" ammo, but then defined it in such a way that it would ban any centerfire ammo, at the discretion of the Attorney General. Which could be Jackboot Janet II come next January 20th.

Hey, I own a Ruger Mini-30, so I hear you on the surplus 7.62X39mm. That and Wolf brand is all there is, just about. I guess Rodgers is right, Ted Kennedy wants to make my mini-30 a nice relic of the past. Fat bASS-turd!

Voting for Bush is, of course, better than voting for any of the dems, and refusing to vote in protest is not an option. This leaves me with Bush for November 2004 no matter what. Reasoning like that is exactly why the Republicans WILL pass utter garbage and send it on to Bush for signature. They'll pass it in order to get some other bill that lines their brother-in-law's pockets, or something equally offensive and corrupt, because they know that you won't even stay home - let alone vote for someone else - no matter what they do.
I'm sorry, but an attitude like yours makes you a slave. I hate the Dems also - with a passion, I might add - but at least you know where you stand with them. Being stabbed in the back and then rewarding the stabber only encourages more of the same.

Sounds like we've got about another ten minutes before they vote on benefits extension amendment.

The Boxer Amendment requires that gun lock be sold with all new handgun purchases. $2500 fine if your unlocked gun is used in an accident, stolen and used in crime, ect... It also REQUIRES that firearms manufacturers have integral locking devices and load indicators.
Your information is at odds with
Senator Boxer's own website. According to Senator Boxer's website:
Boxer's amendment does the following:
- The amendment defines a "locking device" as a conventional key or combination lock, a personalized device such as a fingerprint technology, or a safety lock box or gun storage device.
- The amendment directs the Consumer Product Safety Commission to establish a consumer product safety standard for locking devices. The standard will ensure that locking devices are sufficiently difficult for children to remove, and prevent the discharge of the handgun unless the locking device has been removed.
- Finally, the amendment requires the Attorney General to suspend or revoke the license of a manufacturer or dealer who violates this act, and/or fine them up to $15,000.
If it contained the provisions you say it does, I think the California senator would be bragging about those provisions, too.
I haven't seen the actual text of either the Boxer amendment or the Kohl secondary amendment to the Boxer amendment, so I don't know for sure. I also wouldn't necessarily trust Boxer's website 100%. But I think if there were provisions for fines for gun owners in what passed, she would be taking credit for that.
Also, both Senator Boxer and Senator Kohl said that this amendment, as amended by the Kohl secondary amendment, was identical to some legislation passed by the Senate (but not the House) in 1999. I'm trying to search for that now, but I don't remember which specific bill they referred to.

Sounds like we've got about another ten minutes before they vote on benefits extension amendment.Great. So, if I understand this correctly, the Dems will tack on an amendment so the Pubs will be voting against the unemployed if they don't pass this bill - which is likely to make us felons.
The Stupid Party is being played like a fiddle.
So whattaya think our chances are? Republicans voting against unemployment benefits in an election year or voting for "childrens' safety"?
I think I've got a good chance of just having been written out of the Constitution so a bunch of spineless politicians can sit another term.

I was listening when Boxer herself read it into the record. We'll see when the text is posted to Thomas.loc.gov.

Either:
A) You have access to the text of SB2620 (in which case, post it, because the rest of us can't find it)
B) You've taken the bait hook line and sinker
C) Hi Moby, nice try.
This is what I found on packing.org regarding this amendment:
This only requires that a lock be included in all new gun purchases, something the manufacturers are already doing, and a lot cheaper "insurance" than continuing to fight the lawsuits. This is a "no-cost" amendment.
This is what I found on Thomas:
The text of SP2620 has not yet been received from GPO
Bills are generally sent to the Library of Congress from the Government Printing Office a day or two after they are introduced on the floor of the House or Senate. Delays can occur when there are a large number of bills to prepare or when a very large bill has to be printed.

Back up in this thread. I was watching CSPAN-2 via the web when Boxer was touting her noxious peice of legislation.
I've also pointed out several times that we shall see exactly how bad it is when the text gets posted to thomas.loc.gov tomorrow.
Keep your damn insults to yourself.
Or are you trying to cover the asses of the twenty some Republicans that voted for it by trying to minimize yet another infringement on commerce and firearms both?

I was listening when Boxer herself read it into the record. So, does it indeed effectively mandate locked storage or not?
I feel like I'm waiting for the jury to come back and tell me if I have (will be) convicted of a federal crime.
D***! A pox on both their houses!

You talk the talk, but if not Bush, and not the dems, then who exactly do you think is electable outside this subset? Would you do the Nader thing and vote idealistically, thus handing the election to the dems?

We were discussing the mentioned particulars back around post 455 or so. No one is 100% certain what exactly they are going to have in the text. We'll know tomorrow. Votes get posted within an hour. Text updated overnight.
