February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

DAM BREAKS IN SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI, FLOODING DOZENS OF HOMES
AP Breaking News ^ | 12 March 2004

Posted on 03/12/2004 10:35:39 PM EST by MeneMeneTekelUpharsin

PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - A dam holding back an 1,100 acre lake in southern Mississippi broke on Friday, damaging dozens of homes and several roads in two counties, authorities said. Following the failure of the Big Bay Lake dam, state emergency officials found 43 homes damaged and 12 mobile homes destroyed. Gov. Haley Barbour declared a state of emergency for Marion and Lamar counties.

Officials had not determined whether anyone was missing or injured, search crews were going door to door in areas below the dam, west of Purvis. Chip Gibson, a local pilot, said when he flew over the area it appeared the lake had been completely drained. "About a 150- to 200-foot section of the dam was gone," he told The Hattiesburg American newspaper.

"Does Steve Quayle have inside operational information or does he read the same stupid Daleel rubbish we read? I believe based on what I have seen on his site that it is the latter. I also believe he is trying to make a buck off of other's insecurities by hawking all form of disaster products."

Bingo!

(now back to reading. Boy is this a long thread.)

String of mailbox bombings in Palm Springs

Today at five, we told you about a string of mailbox bombings in south Palm Springs. But neighbors say they're not laughing at these pranks. These crude plastic bombs can be really dangerous.

It's happened four times in the last month, all in this same neighborhood in the southern end of Palm Springs. Mailbox bombs going off right outside people's front doors. No one's been hurt, but residents are fed up.

"When you have the quietness of everyday life, and then something like this happens it's a wakeup call," says resident Gary Schmidt.

Especially when you consider how dangerous this seemingly harmless prank can be.

"It concerns us that if someone touches it, it can cause burns," says Carl Thiebault, Palm Springs Fire Department.

Police say the mailbox bomb is set off by a chemical reaction, so simply opening the door won't be enough to trigger it. But if you happen to be walking by when it goes off, the acid could eat through your skin, or even worse, blind you.

Police say they don't know who's doing this, but they say it could be a teenage prank. Resident Gary Schmidt was just about to take a walk when we told him about the bombing. If kids are responsible, Schmidt says he hopes their parents will do something about it.

"Pay attention to what your kids are doing, I know it's hard, as I learned years ago, but you have to pay attention."

Police say this neighborhood may have been a target because there are a lot of trees and bushes to hide behind, and very little street lighting. In every case the cause of the explosion was a plastic bottle filled with acid, rigged to blow up.

Prank or not, police say whoever's responsible might end up behind bars.

"We take it seriously and we will find you."

Detectives tell us they don't have many leads. If you see anything suspicious, call police with information.

That's what I was thinking but I hadn't made it to weather maps yet to check it out.

Do you know if there were significant rains within the last few days to stress the dam?

Hmm. Such a valuable stash would be hidden quite well I assume. And it was just discovered by accident eh? Perhaps they were looking for it might be a better assumption. Then again, what do I know. [apparently not much] :)
