February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Wow, two tapes in one day!!!

If nothing comes of this, people are going to be laughing when AQ releases tapes. Even their chosen outlets are calling most of the tapes irrelevant by saying they only aired what they considered news worthy and new, meaning most of it was not worthy of mention and a reapet of old garbage.

In essence even Al Jezeera is saying it's the same old crap, just a different day. yawn...

If this isn't the best evidence that we are kicking AQ's butt into extinction , I don't know what is.

I'm not buying it. Even Col David Hunt on FNC last night wasn't buying it. Its just too scripted, too many press releases, it feels like a staged game of Risk: Pakistan does X, we do Y and Z, and then out pops Osama to be captured. The previous thread has some ideas, some like the nuclear blacmkail thing is far fetched in my opinion, but at first I did not believe the "captured in Iran" stories at all, now I'm maybe at 20% on that story. This Pakistan "offensive" being the cover for that.

Bret Baier reporting on Fox News that the Taliban had upped their bounty for the killing of an American troop to $50,000 and $100,000 for a superior military personnel. Also Bret stated that the Taliban and/or Al Queda were sending out flyers threating death to Afganis if they show up to vote.

Abizaid states that we are on the hunt for Al Queda but debunks the story about the US knowing the whereabouts of OBL.

President Putin made the statement on dismissing the government Russian First Channel and Russian TV Channel.
According to Vladimir Putin, this decision did not result from the work of the former Cabinet. Russian President estimated the Cabinet"s work as satisfactory. President Putin said he had made this decision to demonstrate his position on the development of Russia after presidential elections taking place on March, 14.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of finance Victor Khristenko has been appointed Interim Prime Minister, RIA-Novosti reported.

President said that he is authorized to make this decision by Article 117 of Russian Constitution, NEWSru reported.

The full text of the Decree by President Putin:

"In accordance with point "b" of Article 117 of Russian Constitution I have decided:

1. To dismiss the government of the Russian Federation

2. Appoint Deputy Prime Minister Victor Khristenko Interim Prime Minister.

3. Require Russian Government to execute its functions until the new Cabinet is formed.

4. This Decree came into force on the day it was signed".

Viktor Borisovich Khristenko was a relative unknown until 1998. He's from the Chelyabinsk area, and is some kind of a economics, financial and commerce wiz, and has been in charge of the entire Russian Federation energy sector.

True, attacks have followed, but no attacks even approaching the scale advertised. This, IMHO, shows that we are kicking AQ butt! They can't really do anything significant.

This is something I'm starting to say "so what?" to also. How much more can the chatter increase? It's already been said to be higher than ever and this is supposed to be a prediction of a terror attack. From what I can see, I'm sure AQ would like to be able to do something big, but they just can't pull it off. We are kickin' their butt!!

I hope you're right, and I tend to agree with what you said...for the short term. That being said, I do believe it is just a matter of time that they are going to hurt us again in some way - they obviously hate us and are willing to die for their cause; whether it is of the scale of 9/11 remains to be seen.

I am with you there, and I'm not laughing.

But aren't their threat's being laughed at, in essence, by their own chosen outlet?

When Al Jazeera doesn't give the tapes enough importance to even air the majority of the tape, why should anyone take them seriously?

This isn't the first time Al Jazeera has decided not to play the whole tape. The last time they didn't play the whole tape, they were supposedly given a good dressing down by AQ, as reported on many links on this thread.

Apparently, Al Jazeera doesn't much care what AQ has to say anymore.
In light of that, how worried should we be by the appearance of not one, but two tapes on the same day?

Perhaps very because, as has been noted, if they don't produce on at least some of these threats, they won't be taken seriously anymore.

I guess my question is, have we already crossed that line? How seriously do we need to take these threats in light of recent advances made by our guys and AQ's seeming impotence?

And I was just wondering, are there any U.S. troops operating in those areas with the Pakistani military?
