February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Soccer stadium blast kills fan

AN explosion at a soccer stadium filled with spectators left one man dead and 20 people injured today, emergency crews in San Salvador said.

The blast took place in the stands at the Jorge Gonzalez stadium as the Alianza and San Salvador teams kicked off the new season.

A man in his 20s was killed and at least 20 other people were either burned or otherwise injured as they fled the blast.

One report said police believed the incident was probably caused by a smoke bomb.

Flight searched due to suspicious activity

March 7, 2004

An airliner arriving at Indianapolis International Airport on Saturday was searched because of suspicious actions by two of the passengers.

Northwest Airlines Flight 1011 arrived at the airport shortly after 6 p.m. following a 43-minute trip from Detroit.

"The activity occurred en route from Detroit. As a precaution, when it got to the gate, they ran a security sweep and their airliner was cleared," said Dennis Rosebrough, airport spokesman.

A search dog was used in the security sweep, which was completed about 8:30 p.m. Information on what aroused the suspicions and whether any action was taken against the two passengers could not be obtained by late Saturday.

The only difference is that we regarded that as extreme merit badge skills to be utilized only in case of drastic government breakdown. Pipe bomb discovered near lake - New York

A pipe bomb was discovered by two fishermen near a bridge off Lakeway Drive on Oneida Lake on Friday.

Local authorities decided to call the State Police Bomb Squad once it was determined the object was indeed a bomb.

Everyone in the surrounding area was evacuated. The explosive was then dragged from the water, and safely detonated.

Det. Sgt. Mark Bushey said, "The first and foremost is the safety of the citizens, and we treat everything with respect for the real thing."

Resident Craig Rand said, "You wouldn't think there would be a bomb up here. But I guess nowadays you never know."

Officials still don't know who threw the bomb in the lake.
