[history]
February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

"Iran on Sunday categorically rejected claims by a US state department official alleging that fugitive members of Al-Qaeda have taken refuge in the Islamic Republic."
Hmmmm...
The US State Department was VERY quick to issue flat-out denials about OBL's capture (in Iran) back on January 22. Remember? Against all norms of official government protocol US State immediately denied the existence of the US DoD operation that bagged Osama.
The usual response is to neither confirm nor deny anything.
Even President Bush REFUSED COMMENT when asked directly about Osama's location by Tim Russert on "Meet the Press" a few weeks ago.
But now, for some reason, Iran is a haven for other al-Qaeda operators and State Department is publicly saying so???
Right....

Good to see ya again Sean.
I've been busier than a three legged hound dog, and havent had much time to read or post in a few days. I've been reading the posts, and the text about Mansour Ijaz being creepy strikes me.
I get the same feeling from him too. He is too well informed, too well connected, and too good to be true for my tastes. There has to be a second agenda to his methods, and I am curious what that agenda entails.
I know he is a big 'Rat donor, and has been for a long time.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Umm Nidal Farhat [1] came to public attention for the first time when she was filmed helping her son Muhammad Farhat leave home to carry out the March 20, 2002 attack during which he was killed. About a year later her second son, Nidal, was killed by Israeli forces. In an interview published in both the Israeli-Arab Kul Al-Arab weekly and the London Arabic-language daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Umm Nidal reiterated that martyrdom (Shehada) is the most supreme act, and one of the basic principles of Islam. The following are excerpts from the interview:"

Laying groundwork for invasion of Iran I presume.

Things do seem to be heading in that direction.
I find it interesting that Iran allies with Syria right off the bat. ( Wasn't much of Saddam's WMD said to be hidden in Syria? Recall the Russian "advisors" in Iraq just prior to the war? No doubt assisting Saddam to hide the goodies.)
Iran is making it very clear to us that we will not be able to advance on them without risking retaliation with wmd, or so it seems.

OFFICIALS WOULD NOT GIVE ANY SPECIFICS ON THE CASE, OR THE NAMES OF THOSE ARRESTED. AUTHORITIES DID SAY A LARGE QUANITY OF CASH WAS RECOVERED AT THE MOTEL. THE INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING BY THE IMMIGRATION CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT UNIT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY.

http://www.military.com/NewContent/0,13190,Defensewatch_030104_Illegals,00.html?ESRC=dod.nlI guess this is another instance where they are needed because Americans refuse to take the jobs.
JP this article may need a thread of its own. Get others opinion. Although I have seen on cable news some of our military illegals come back to the U.S. from Iraq with one or more limbs missing I am also concerned after reading the total #s of the unknowns.
I know from talking to a few young military guys is that the reason they enlisted was because of the bonus money. This could be the reason for some of the illegals. I know for a fact that some young American military had no earthly idea that they would be fighting a war today in Iraq or anywhere else although they would/could not admit it in a public forum.

IMO this is the strongest evidence yet about his capture -- at least of what's in the open.
Prior to that Bush usually said something like, we will get him sooner or later, or words to that effect. I found it curious, that he refused to comment.

It looks to me like they are preparing for war. They are flipping the rest of the world the finger about their nuclear weapons program.Add Pakistan to that equation and I'll agree.

Kingston New York arrests...............
Wed, Mar. 03, 2004
Virginia Beach, Va., Man Held in Plot to Aid Immigration of Middle Easterners
The Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk, Va. Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News
Mar. 3--VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Federal agents arrested a gas station owner Tuesday morning on charges that he and others, including a Maryland lawyer, conspired to allow illegal Middle Eastern immigrants into the country.
The agents stormed a home in the 1900 block of Abbotsbury Way, off Holland Road, and arrested Zulfiqar Ali, 43.
Four others were arrested in Herndon, McLean, Potomac, Md., and Kingston, N.Y. An indictment filed in Greenbelt, Md., alleges that Ali and the others allowed an unknown number of illegal immigrants into the country from here to New York from 1998 to last year by filing fraudulent documents with the government.
The immigrants were supposed to work at gas stations, restaurants and construction companies but never did. Some of the businesses were owned by the suspects, but some were unwitting clients of the Maryland attorney, according to the indictment.
It was unclear whether any of the illegal immigrants have been arrested or located.
Although the case was handled by the Department of Homeland Security, there is no indication of any connection to terrorism.
Ali was charged with racketeering and conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants and conspiring to submit false documents to the government.
He appeared Tuesday afternoon in Norfolk's U.S. District Court and asked for a hearing on his arrest and detention. During the hearing, Ali, limping and clenching his side, talked about having a liver ailment.
"I have health issues," he said. "I am in a lot of pain."
He said he was supposed to see a doctor Tuesday and that the federal agents refused to give him his medication.
U.S. District Court Magistrate James E. Bradberry asked a prosecutor to consult with Ali's doctors. He ordered Ali detained and set another hearing for 2:30 p.m. today.
Court records say that Ali is the owner of several corporations that operate gas stations here and in New York. The names of his stations were not disclosed.
Also charged in the case was Maqsood Hamid Mir, a lawyer with Mir Law Associates in Potomac. He is accused of using the names of business clients to obtain fraudulent immigration documents.
