February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Is the Mirage the casino with the pyramid that was in some of jihadi pix ? No, the pyramid is the Luxor. The Mirage has the volcano in front of it, which was also mentioned at some time on this thread.

The last time there was Luxor talk/threats, there was the
Egypt plane crash.
Didn't that also show or have dealings with an island?
Or was it the island that Blair was on for his vacation?

BUT....take Myrddin's advice. PLEASE> It's not that hard. People jumping on breaking emergency communications would destroy the system.

Thanks Indie. Oh, I would not ever wish to jeopardize any emergency situation for the authorities. I would just like to listen and know what is going on when I can.

Indie is correct, you don't have to have a ham license to buy a transciever. Maybe you would want to do that if you think you would be serious about getting a license. I can attest to the book that Myrddin refered you to. I used the first version of it about 12 years ago to get my first license. It would be worth picking up a used one; I'd give you one if I had one. It doesn't take that much time to learn what you need to know. If you are dedicated, you can easily learn everything in less than a month. Just study a little each day.

FYI, most scanner radios don't have the capability to receive the HF bands (from 3 MHz to 30 MHz), which is where a lot of the ham activity is. You would also miss out on shortwave broadcasters, which might be able to get you some kind of news if things get really bad here. Occasionally, on HF you can catch Air Force One and SAC command planes as well. There's a lot of interesting stuff there.

Bush is like the losing gambler, who gambles more when his losses increase, running after the mirage of impossible gain. Nice try Zawahiri...we don't buy your theory or your propaganda, you impotent Schwein Hund.

To: thecabal
correct me if I'm wrong...to get a technician license (the lowest license to get a ham) you can only transmit from 144 and up. The get a general license, which you need to know Morris Code and is pretty extensive, then you would gain a license for short wave...so most people have technical status which give you basically every frequency from 144 and up...general license only gives you 3 to 144...a lot of people have technician license, but not too many have general...does this sound correct?...I'm trying to explain what my friend at work (who has general lic.) said.

A little tidbit of news out of Kentucky tonight:
Knox County reported that a routine bust of a rural meth lab revealed the presence of an IED in the perp's garage shop.
ATF and Emergency Mngt. have rolled. They're going to blow it in place - and to hell with the garage!!!
To: Domestic Church
The Luxor is the pyramid casino.
To: Old Sarge
Whoa!! What the heck do drug dealers need IED's for? Guns I can understand, but why an explosive device?
To: tmp02
while hammers don't like the CB band...you can still transmit without on CB without a license...but hammer's have the advantage of using repeater frequencies which will give you further distance or up to about 50 miles...CB is line-of-sight or about 25 to 20 miles or less, depending on weather, mountains, etc.

We're still trying to puzzle that one out.
Not sure if the IED was black powder in a pipe, or ammonium nitrate...
Anyway, the EOD guys are about to light the candles...
