A nation in tatters: Haiti rapidly spiraling out of control

GRAN RIVIERE DU NORD, Haiti -- Inspector Narcisse Lacombe cradled an aging assault rifle and swayed uneasily on the porch of this small town's police station -- one of the last in northern Haiti that hasn't been abandoned to anti-government rebels.
Not far away, a new recruit nicknamed "Jungle" tossed his rifle in the air and tried to catch it like a Marine in drill formation.
He and Lacombe are the only two police officers who showed up for work this night, and they have three clips of ammunition between them. The rusting hulks of two abandoned police cars litter the courtyard. The proper batteries cannot be found for their dusty radios, so there is no contact with the remaining 13 officers guarding three towns just outside Cap-Haitien, Haiti's second-largest city.

Bubba screwed up big time in spending US dollars and military force in a foreign adventure without any apparent benefits. Might I say that this has been an ongoing American policy that has survived over the course of several administrations? From Korea to Iraq, America seems intent on destroying itself by expending lives and resources on adventures that turn out to be questionable at best.

The things you mentioned may very well be the best of what we've done over several administrations if you include all foreign and domestic matters during that period. What we're now doing in Iraq can potentially change the entire region for the better...maybe.

Absolutely...don't get near that man, and don't ride in an airplane after he changes to another plane. I would also avoid all the Kennedys, especially when they're drinking.

Where are the slew of editorials from the oh so smart liberals on why Haiti is screwed up? Could it be because it would reflect on their idol X42??

Not a good idea to endorse a guy who doesn't take off his sunglasses.

If Bush were smart, he would come forward with a speach demanding the UN, especially France and Germany, send troops immediately to gain and maintain the "peace". NO U.S. troops though. And when they fail, as they most often do, Bush can point out that this is why we went to Iraq without France and Germanys "permission". Force the UN to step up to the plate. Make them prove their relevence. If not, they can go to hell.

I thought France was already sending troops??
