[history]
Gavin Newsom was going to be the policy wonk, the San Francisco mayor who sweated the small stuff. Instead, he's sweating some of the biggest stuff of all.
In less than two months, Newsom has become the indignant, in-your-face mayor. He made unannounced visits to homicide scenes in violence-ravaged San Francisco neighborhoods, declaring, "I'm responsible for what's going on out there." When police inspectors grumbled, Newsom said their problem wasn't him, it was their record at solving crimes.

He's suprised by the lack of democratic support for his illegal action. He is thusly defined as a political neophyte with a strong will.

< "He's going to be the mayor he wants to be and do what he thinks is right,'' said state Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, D-San Francisco, an old-time lefty who has known the 36-year-old Newsom since the mayor was a kid, and has warred with him over homelessness. >
A few days ago it was Nancy Pelosi who said she had know Newsom since he was a boy. Does anyone know who his parents were to be so tight with these big time lefties?

"It certainly allows me to be more intense and more passionate about problems, and perhaps that's the righteous indignation,'' he said. Righteous indignation is an inappropriate state of mind for any elected official. The righteously indignant spend other people's money in buckets and trample all over the rights of people not directly connected to whatever cause they happen to indignant about at the moment.

Newsom has his eyes on national office, all the way up to the Presidency of the United States. He's banking on the hope that gay marriage will become accepted all over the country and he can position himself as the driving force in that effort. I think he probably doesn't realize how out of step the Bay Area is with the rest of the US. Thankfully, it appears the gay marriage thing has backfired on the liberals, as seen in Massachusetts where opposition has increased.

One of the lawyers suing the city to stop the flood of same-sex marriages had another take: Newsom is "essentially setting himself up as king,'' said Mathew Staver.Newsom is an anarchist. Dangerous times ahead if the state of CA nor Feds put him in his place.
