Fox news is interviewing John Loftus, Formers Justice Department Prosectutor who states that he has an inside scoop that "the Republican Party has asked the British Secret Service to bug phones of American political Candidates. "

FOX NEWS Eric Shawn: "It's a very serious and very shocking story."

JOHN LOFTUS: "That allegation seems very storng of that is the case. Why would any political party want to bug someone else?

It's a juicy way of running a smear campaign behind the works. We have been doing that for about 50 years and it started with president Roosevelt. He had signed a secret treaty with Britian in 1943 that let them each set up listening posts on each other's soil with no search warrants. It's a great little scheme. "

"So the British can use American computers to bug American politicians, and the Americans can use British computers to bug British politicians and each side can truthfully say that they aren't spying on their own citizens. They are just trading information under the table."

ERIC: How widespread is this. Members of the Security Council admitted to me that they are being bugged and that it wasn't surprising, they expected that.

In regards to British and/or American spying on the members of the security council prior to votes about Iraq...Seems reporting the crime is a more serious matter than performing it.

You've lost me somewhere along the line. When did it become a crime to spy on a NGO, or whatever the UN is classified as this week? Isn't it the duty of our, and British, security agencies to spy on any place that holds those who might be threats to our country?

Such things are usually distasteful when exposed, but vital to our national interest. The only one who committed a crime was the young woman in England who decided to report on secret communications.

Everyone else was doing the jobs that we pay them to perform.

This is only partially true. There are agreements between the US, UK, Australia, and without looking it up I believe also New Zealand. This agreement allows each other to intercept communications on each others territory in order to get around various laws. This is very well documented in almost any book about the NSA. The allegations that it is used for spying on political opponents is new.

This is a rumor, an allegation..and Fox runs with it.

Fox didn't run with this, they had an interview, which they apparently do weekly, with this John Loftus wacko. He dropped this out of the blue while talking about his "scoop" from last week that the Chinese were part of the Pakistan nuclear proliferation bazaar (that story is on the front page of the Washington Post this AM). He even stated that we are holding secret documents (in Chinese) found in Iraq with details about China helping Sadam build his bombs. He charged that this is being held to drop at the right time as part of Bush's nefarious plan to get re-relected.

This guy was a Carter era Justice Department guy (Nazi hunter) and stayed on for a bit of the Reagan presidency. I haven't been able to confirm this but there is also a John Loftus who was an aide to Dem Senator John Glenn. This guy is definately a Democrat and it looks like a Michael Moore Democrat at that.

Also, the laws, including surveillance laws apply to anyone. Legal, or illegal aliens are not exempt.
