The administration rolled out its top immigration officials and several senior Republican senators yesterday to endorse publicly a guest-worker program offered by President Bush that could give legal status to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens now in the United States.

You're wrongly assuming that Americans of Mexican descent who came in the "right" way would look upon this as a positive. I believe such a view is misguided and even a bit condescending.

If there were some half-baked scheme to flood the country with second-class status Southern Italian coolie laborers, I'd be just as offended.

The "guest worker" / "amnesty" proposal is just wrong on so many levels. But very powerful people in this country, on both sides of the aisle, do NOT want the illegal immigration problem solved. To them, ensconced in their gated communities, there IS no problem, because labor just gets cheaper and cheaper, and the saps of the shrinking middle class bear the brunt of the negatives such an influx causes.

In 25 - 50 years, this country will be more like Brazil or South Africa than the USA I grew up in.

Amen! I was just ready to be for Bush again because Kerry is so repulsive. This stuff makes me just want to vote for a third party, whoever it might be. All we are voting for this year is who will bring us 100% socialism sooner.

If one ever wanted an example of why the Republicans in the Senate are such a feckless cabal of poltroons, this is as good as any!

>>A greater share of the hispanic vote.

In other words, Bush is more concerned with getting the hispanic vote than the security of our borders. Nice....

But Dixie, if he doesn't get reelected, what will it matter? I mean we'll have worse.

>>Why pass this program if Bush can't cash in on its benefits BEFORE election day? Were I him, I would be on every hispanic radio/tv station talking it up.

Bush should be more concerned about keeping his grassroots conservatives happy instead of pandering to illegals and hispanics. After all, the conservatives are the ones that put him in office. It makes no sense for him to start acting like a liberal Democrat by endorsing these left-wing policies.

You know something's wrong when you start getting praise from Ted Kennedy!

Shut up with your logic and reason, and just vote Republican already. It's not like you have anywhere else to go.

There is no backbone to deport even those convicted of crimes today, how will this be when even more illegals come here, or those that are required to leave within the constructs of the "guest worker" policy??????. The media searches for the single incidences of illegals acting in an honorable fashion(like joining the military) but leave out the reporting of the thousands that are in our jails for felonies. I for one would like to know how an illegal alien is allowed to join the military in the first place, and why he is not booted for lying.......The first act, supercedes all subsequent ones..IMO.

The lesser of two evils is still evil. I plan to vote third party. I will not support a President who does not respect our national borders and who has embraced so many liberal policies. If Bush loses, he will only have himself to blame for acting like a liberal Democrat.

Not to mention that both Bush and Kennedy refuse to distinguish between illegal aliens and immigrants.

"You actually see a positive? I'd like to know what that is. Leftist mexicans on welfare aren't going to vote for Bush. They aren't."

Isn't that the truth.

As you can see, the politicians have completely stopped listening to their constituants. They are going to get their amnesty, one way or another. They are going to flood this country with aliens. It's the only way they can dilute the voice of the people.

The politicians don't care who their constituants are. They will still be politicians and they will still be making themselves richer and richer.

Most of them already consider themselves citizens of the world and their allegence is to (themselves first) the whole world population and not the U.S.

Ever since the UN was formed, they have been working to take away the United States soverninity. It doesn't matter which party is in charge.
Elections are nothing more than games to appease the people.
The parties play vulgarly dirty and stab each other in the back, but you hardly ever see any of them carrying a grudge about it.
I think they get together at they're clubs (and they all belong to the same clubs) and say "Dude, you nailed me with that one. I guess I won't be President this year and if it hurts me too much, I have already been promised the Vice President in charge of paper cups at City Corp,"

The "elite" think were all stupid and for at least 50 years, we've been playing right into their hands.

Absolutely not. Its all about winning elections. Why pass this program if Bush can't cash in on its benefits BEFORE election day? Were I him, I would be on every hispanic radio/tv station talking it up.

Do you secretly desire that President Bush lose this election?

The Bush Amnesty will already cost more votes than it gains, and the damage will only increase as long as it is pursued.

I found this quote on your homepage:

Now that's what I've been saying all along. Some people are fighting the wrong battle here. Eliminate the welfare state and a huge percentage of your illegal alien problem goes away.  -- Jim Robinson

Here are two more quotes:

I opposed Proposition 187 in California. When Social Security reform ended federal food assistance to immigrant seniors, I was the only governor in the country to cover the cost.
October 20 - October 26 AsianWeek.com

"I was against the spirit of . . . [Proposition 187] for my state," Bush said of the 1994 California measure.  "I felt like every child ought to be educated, regardless of the status of their parents."
Dallas Morning News, 6/30/99, p. 23A.

Link to both George W. Bush quotes on Proposition #187

Bush misrepresents the "spirit" of 187 here, since children weren't going to be kept out of taxpayer-funded schools for the status of their parents, but for their own. That is, children who themselves were Illegal would not be entitled to public education in California.

Californians tried to end handouts for Illegals, and George W. Bush opposed us. Now he wants to legalize millions of Illegals, who according to you and the owner of this site wouldn't be here but for the welfare benefits George W. Bush insists they should get.

Illegals aren't the only issue for me this November, which is why I'm voting for the President. Doesn't matter what I think, however, because the Bush Amnesty and his overall record on Illegals will cost GOP votes, endanger his reelection, and cost us opportunities in the House and Senate.

In advocating for the Bush Amnesty, you are doing harm to the Republican Party, not to mention the country.

Bush is getting desperate, and is willing to go against the majority of those who elected him. He's a traitor in my book. Any politician who votes for this should be run out of Washington.
