Harold Ford Threatens GOP Over Fonda-Kerry Photo
NewsMax.com ^ | 2/11/04 | Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff

Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., who was one of Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry's earliest backers in Congress, went ballistic Wednesday morning when asked about the photo published Monday by NewsMax.com showing Kerry demonstrating against the Vietnam war with "Hanoi" Jane Fonda.

"Don't bring that up," an angry-sounding Ford told "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy.

Referring to the controversy over President Bush's military record, Ford threatened to "revive this thing on the National Guard" if questions about Kerry's Jane Fonda connection persist.

The Tennessee Democrat attempted to defend Kerry's decision to team up with Fonda after she adopted his group, Vietnam Veterans Against the War, as her leading cause.

"For someone who went over there and almost gave his life, [Kerry] pretty much can say whatever the heck he wants to say, in my book," he told "Fox & Friends."

But in an audio clip played by top radio host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday afternoon, Ford continued to seethe over the photo picturing his candidate with the Vietnam War traitor.

"If you want to show pictures of him with Jane Fonda and other things, then the president ought to produce all the evidence [about his Guard service]," he railed.

Although it was not clear whether he was speaking for Kerry, Ford offered to cut a deal in a bid to halt discussion over Kerry's relationship with "Hanoi" Jane.

"I'm willing to put all of [Bush's Guard record] aside and not bring any of that up ... but you better do the same with John Kerry," proposed Ford. "It's clear where [Kerry] was [during the early 1970s] And at this moment it's unclear where the president was."

The congressman urged the GOP to keep its focus on the issues that are important to America's future rather than rehashing irrelevant details from Sen. Kerry's past.

Kerry looks like a malignant chipmunk in that photo.

Kerry looks like he's having a fantacising-over-Fonda orgasmic moment in that photo....snapped at the precise time download was taking place.

Don't bring up Vietnam, eh? Don't prod a sleeping bear with a stick.

"For someone who went over there and almost gave his life, [Kerry] pretty much can say whatever the heck he wants to say, in my book," he told "Fox & Friends."

So what was the excuse when we were told in 1992 that Clinton's draft-dodging and protests in a foreign country were off-limits?

If President Bush's records from 1972 are an issue now, then so are John Kerry's!

And we should start with his comments in 1970 in which he stated that the U.S. military should only be deployed at the behest of the United Nations, and that the CIA should be disbanded.

C'mon 'RAT bastards! No more excuses!

Didn't I hear someone on FOX say that book is VERY hard to find, with the original cover, that is?? They have shot off their smart mouths for entirely TOO long. It is time, time for them to blow.

They wouldn't be so defensive if they didn't think it would be a threat to them.

This picture and the info around it scares them.

But Democrats should feel free to continue rehashing irrelevant details from President Bush's past. Friggin' hypocrats.

I watched this segment, and got the clear idea of what Ford was implying. Drop the post-Vietnam Kerry stuff, and the Dems will drop the NG charges...Those Dems are really something!

Howlin said "I wonder how little Harold feels about Benedict Arnold?"

I agree with his sentiment here of FOrd however Kerry's anti war actions as a leader of that movement disqualify him for President and its a damn shame that it did not disqualify him for Senator.

FYI Jane Fonda has expressed her regret about this time, when will Kerry?

While Ford was on Fox & Friends, C-Span was doing a piece of Fox News and broadcasting from the Fox News studio.

While interviewing one of the Fox journalists, the subject came up about extreme lefties. At that instant the camera panned to Harold Ford sitting in the Fox Studio waiting to go on the air.

The Dems are buying up every copy they can to keep this photo out of circulation. It shows a bunch of Kerry's buddys outside the Iwo Jima Monument. Its a disgrace to veterans.

I *had* thought Ford had promise.

It's called "pretending to be a moderate".

And her endorsement of Kerry on CNN today sure isn't going to help Kerry or now Rep Ford.

But then again, I thought Bill Clinton was going to lose his Presidency during the Impeachment.

There's no Ross Perot this time...

Aside from how goofy Kerry looks in that photo, what strikes me is Jane's look about her -- a combination of hero worship, misplaced idealism, and ultra-impressionability. ....The type of girl who'd jump into the sack with you without hesitation if you quoted Mao from memory and sported a Che Guevara hat.

Haven't seen it mentioned, but it
wasn't only about Hanoi Jane & JK
that he threatened to pursue Bush
& the Guard over -

NO! Ford said Kerry's hundreds of
Senate votes can't be used either
'cause the election must only be
about the future.

YES!
