A photograph of Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts together with Jane Fonda at an anti-Vietnam war rally in 1970 in Pennsylvania has surfaced on the Internet, angering veterans who say his association with her 34 years ago is a slap in the faces of Vietnam War veterans.

I still like NewsMax and I hope NewsMax still likes FR.

Yup, and I will continue to credit FR where and when I can. It's the single best news resource on the Internet.

"Hanoi Jane is, without a doubt, the most hated person a Viet Nam vet could have."

Some POW's who were picked by their captors to meet with Jane Fonda palmed notes to her to take back to the States. They were hand-scrawled pleas for her to tell the nation that American soldiers were being tortured and mistreated or to let relatives know that they were alive.

When Fonda was leaving she turned all those notes over to the Viet Cong, who retaliated with more torture and deprivation for the POW's involved.

Noone should ever forget what she did, and the fact alone that Kerry pal'ed around with her should disqualify him from the presidency.

Thank you. I hope that we can put this behind us and keep moving the ball down the field.

So what kind of wounds did he get? Seed burns? Bong water spills, I hate those. Confusion in crossing streets/creeks.

Why doesn't someone just ask the obvious??

The Democrats said once & for all that Clinton's draft dodging was "irrelevant" in 1992....why is it relevant now with Bush? Either it was then and is now or wasn't then and isn't a factor now..

"How North Vietnam Won The War"

Great post, however, I have issue with this statement.

I think that it does a great diservice to our vetrans by saying that we lost the Vietnam War. The existance of a McDonald's selling Coca Cola - 2 of the greatest symbols of American capitalism - in Hanoi gives proof to the contrary.

and some FReeper needs to get a hold of that book with the infamous cover... The New Soldiers

There are two up for auction on Ebay: a hard cover, signed by Kerry which is currently at $500+ and a soft cover which is at @$75....wonder whose bidding on those?

It's the goose and gander thing, y'know?

No it's not. Bush did not fight for the other side.

There is a precedent for this kind of behavior, a war hero who changed sides against us.

Does the name Benedict Arnold ring any bells?

Now I was going to go down to the Detroit News and Library archives and find a photo of Kerry and Fonda at a Detroit rally, but it's going to take me at last a day if not a week, and honestly, why should I do all that work if we aren't going to get any credit.

To let them know. To let everyone know.

All this carping about FR getting credit is a little silly. Did FR take the photo? Does FR own the photo? I presume not, since it is attributed to "Corbis" which is a professional photography service.

Some Freeper -- I presume it's you, HLL, whom I've long admired here -- has done a great service for Bush's cause and for the news business for creatively and smartly Googling and coming up with this gem of a photo. So perhaps FR deserves a smidgen of credit for finding the photo, but since it does not own the photo, true and full credit goes to Corbis for taking and owning the photo.

Frankly, I suspect the slight to FR was not intentional on the part of The Washington Times. That paper has mentioned FR in the past, and will doubtless do so again. It was probably only made aware of the Kerry/Fonda photo through Newsmax, which advertises heavily on its website. Freepers everywhere should be proud that, even if the glory spotlight is not currently shining on this site, Free Republic in this instance is having a MAJOR impact on the election.

Whining over "credit" does not become us.

Rep. Sam Johnson, Texas Republican, who spent nearly seven years in a prisoner-of-war camp in Vietnam, said yesterday the photograph of Mr. Kerry with Miss Fonda will hurt him nevertheless. "I think it symbolizes how two-faced he is, talking about his war reputation, which is questionable on the one hand, and then coming out against our veterans who were fighting over there on the other," Mr. Johnson said. Mr. Johnson recalled that his North Vietnamese captors played recordings of Miss Fonda telling U.S. troops to give up the war. "Seeing this picture of Kerry with her at antiwar demonstrations in the United States just makes me want to throw up."

"Jane, my dear comrade, let me help you aim that gun
turret that you have pointed at American soldiers."
