[history]
A proposal by a powerful Bay Area lawmaker could make California the first state to ban the production and sale of foie gras -- a move that would wipe the controversial delicacy from menus throughout this food-savvy state.
State Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, D-San Francisco, is expected to introduce a bill this week that would virtually prohibit foie gras by essentially putting the Western United States' sole producer out of business while denying chefs ready access to the hyper-fattened duck liver.

They've already gone after McDs et al, so I don't know. My guess is that they'll just continue to go after EVERYTHING. PETA's already against all meat and milk and honey, and, well.............EVERYTHING but brown rice and tofu.

Doesn't this low-life, scumbag, busybody, jerk, loser of a politician have anything freaking better to do with his pathetic life? For criminy sakes, it is a freaking duck. And it tastes good to humans!

.. er.. sorry 'bout that folks. Politicians are really ticking me off these days! "Our fine feathered friends indeed." Somehow, I don't think he was elected to take care of Donald Freaking Duck.

Liberals don't like foie gras? Apparently Senator John Burton cares more about what ends up in high-end restaurants than California's budget situation. Oy vey!

Witnessing this is as bizarre as seeing the EU regulating on what must be the exact composition of chocolate and such-likes.

Yes...........what about the rights of plants ?
To: nopardons
Yeah, plants are smarter than a lot of animals.
Cows will stand in the rain and drown as the water rises. Plants have active systems that seek out light! A cow would starve standing 10 feet away from a giant pile of hay if it wasn't in it's usual place.
Heck, you can confuse cats the same way...I know! lol

Burton's bill seeks to block the sale of foie gras produced by the controversial "speed-feeding" method in which grain is streamed through a pipe inserted down the throat of a duck or goose for weeks at a time toward the end of their lives. The method, which rapidly enlarges the bird's liver, is standard industry practice but considered abhorrent by animal rights activists, who maintain that it causes the birds to suffer. Enviro wacko bashing hollywood's plates... hmmm. tough choice. Have at it losers!
Actualy goose love to be force fed that stuff. They do not bite, they come happy when you clap your hands for the force feeding.
Animal rights activists have it up their arse again on this.
Last but not least, why should we crucify ourselves for animals.... it seems to me that animals are purely doctrinal non-beings as opposed to individuals who are there to use the doctrine to their benefit.
To: JudgemAll
and goose liver would taste rotten if the animal suffered or was sick from it, believe me. This is an attack on white colar food and yet another industry stepping on the legs of roaches...
"I've eaten foie gras," he added. "It ain't my cup of tea."Sen. Burton, why don't you ask PETA to convince people not to eat foie gras from force-fed ducks and let the market determine what method consumers like? Then you can get back to work fixing the CA budget mess.
If people choose free-range chicken over regular chicken, then the market will support the demand. If many foie gras customers switch to not-so-fatty liver/foie from regular ducks, the Sonoma, CA, foie gras producer might consider changing his production style to meet the new demand.
