Do you think he's the big fish they are referring to in today's reported capture?

not to mention several new posts each day on the Arabic boards with not-so-pretty pictures of exploding nuclear weapons :(

One question I hear quite a bit is "If Al Qaeda has nuclear weapons why haven't they used them?"

I suspect the answer is twofold. Perhaps it is partially because of our security - we may have stopped them from using them. And perhaps they just aren't ready to use them yet. Why not? I wish I had that answer. Because if you can answer that question, then you can go a long way to answering the related question: when WILL they use them?

Hopefully the Libya/nuke story link is just rumor.

Glad you liked the book excerpts!

You seek proof. Watch your national news. You will know when my
hand
has appeared. Will be on the east coast. Many square miles
destructed,
yes we have nuclear weapons and we will use them at a specific moment
in time which is arriving. Until then we continue to communicate
under
other names on your yahoo board and freedom watchers. Our message
appear normal enough not unlike any other member, this our purpose to
communicate with each other right under your noses. I owe you no
proof
only total destruction. You make no demands of EOM infidel harlot,

Sean, that was posted yesterday. There seems to be some confusion between suitcase and backpack nukes, which, as I understand, are not the same thing.

In any event, the poster "poohbah", who claims to have some working knowledge on these nuclear devices was pinged to this thread and asked if these devices, in light of their age, would still be functional. His rather succinct answer was "no". He did indicate that they could be converted to "dirty" radioactive explosive devices.

To: Poohbah Is it even plausible that, with the proper information and necessary equipment, let's say from AQ's apparent connections to Pakistan's Khan and/or at least some of the scientist's working for Khan, that they (AQ) "could" maintain the viability of these weapons for an indefinite length of time if they were still operable at the time of purchase? If AQ knowingly bought the weapons in an inoperable state, is it plausible they could be "refurbished", for lack of a better term, with the proper guidance and materials, or would it be more likely they bought them knowing the most they could do with them is construct a "dirty bomb".

Nope. Tritium decays, plutonium decays, and Pakistan doesn't have very much of either to hand out to terrorists.

The latter.

I agree, and there are many references to the Vreeland story, some are questionable at best, others are fairly reputable.

I've found conviction records for him from 1984 on. Long rap sheet. A total tracked offender. So my opinions as to his credibility aren't going to be positive.

If you read the court transcripts, he says much of what was alleged was later pulled or rescinded, by whom I do not know, but it left him with what he claimed was a "trumped" up credit card fraud charge, and a DUI, which he admits to having been guilty of. Do you see any more than that?

Of course we are talking primarily about the 1990's and the Clinton Administration.

Bill and Hill gutted the CIA, NSA, and Intel operations overall,
used the FBI for personal politcal vendettas,
reduced the miltary to dangerously low levels (how thin are we stretched today?!)
was ultimately responsible for the defeat of Task Force Ranger in Mogsdishu,
allowed OBL (on a Sudanese silver platter) to slip through his fingers TWICE...

...and all the while AQ and domestic terrorists with links to Iraq and Iran studied in the US learning nuclear technology and the art of flying really large commercial aircraft,
attacking the WTC in 1993,
blowing up the Murrah Federal Building in OKC,
killing children and other innocents in Waco, Texas.

All of this this while Bill was being serviced by a bevy of bimbos.

A failed American President with his priorities in order.

Some would call it dereliction of duty, others would call it treason. I call it a world of **** come home to roost ever since 9/11.

Welcome to WWIV.

Hmmm, all this and the Leftists have a problem with our current President in a time of war.

Makes me wanna puke.

"Or have they stolen identities of people returning to the US and Europe?"

Perhaps they have...but do they even need to do that these days? I can think of five different ways right off the top of my head(but I won't mention those;)

Do you think they are able to use them for a nuclear detonation, or as Poobah claimed yesterday, their best hope with these devices is a "dirty" bomb?

So what is your opinion of that? I've read that osama says he won't use nukes on us till we use them on them or till qaeda is dismantled. What do you think?

Some links on Atomic Demolitions Munition - which are basically man-portable devices weighing less than 75 pounds.

My understanding, and I'll admit I'm not a nuclear physicist by any means, is that the purpose of the tritium is to boost the yield of a device. Without tritium the yield would be substantially lower. But wouldn't you still have a pretty deadly device, at least for the people who have the misfortune of being nearby?

According to Vreeland's rap sheet, he uses all of the following alias:

Name: DELMART J VREELAND

Real name:
DELMART J VREELAND

Other ALIASES:

DELMART WOODBURY
DELMART EDWARD WOODBURY
EDWARD JOSEPH DELMART
EDWARD VREELAND DELMART
SNEEDEN LAWRENCE
VREELAND JOSEPH II
VREELAND MARK

So this totally discredits the websites I've read so far on this story. I saw a few that were written implying that our own gov created allias death certificates or something for him.

Moscow Police Investigate Suspicious Mail

MOSCOW - Moscow police said they did chemical tests at the office of the BP oil company Tuesday after employees reported what was termed suspicious mail.

In London, BP spokesman Tony Odone said all BP staff members were well and none were made ill.

The Interfax news agency said police were called to the BP office when employees suffered headaches, rashes and felt a stinging in their eye after handling mail that arrived from Houston, Texas.

The Emergency Situations Ministry said there had been one report of a worker made sick, but that the employee now felt well.

Odone said the company's Moscow office had received a parcel from Houston "which had a substance on the outside of the package which is now being tested by the authorities.

"We are now waiting for the results," spokesman Toby Odone said. He didn't specify what the substance was or what it looked like.

Police experts were testing the air and the mail for chemicals, but found no powder or liquid inside the envelopes, Moscow police spokesman Pavel Klimovsky told The Associated Press.

You asked Sean but I'm going to answer too.

I think that when it fits into the roadmap that Al Qaeda is following, and when they feel they have a high probability of success then they will try. They are not going to rush to do it on our timetable. They will threaten and try to shake us up, and try make us complacent.

And I am being very specific when I say Al Qaeda and not Bin Laden. I mean the organization Al Qaeda - I am not convinced Bin Laden is calling the shots any more.

Will they succeed? I sure as heck hope not. Will they try? Probably. When? Whenever it best suits their purposes

Let me also throw in a wildcard here. You cannot completely rule out the possibility of a rogue cell that decides to go off and do their own thing.
