EU considering requirement that wild game be certified "fit" before being hunted.
Forbes ^ | Feb 16, 2004 issue | Charles Oliver

Foul Move

The European Union Parliament will reportedly take up a bill that will require wild game to be certified as fit and healthy before it is shot. It would also have to be examined by a veterinarian after it is shot to make sure there are no "abnormalities." Hunters say the first requirement is pretty much impossible; it is wild game, after all. And the second would be prohibitively expensive and time-consuming.

Then no one would hunt...
and then there would be no need for "sporting" guns..
Then no one would mind if they were banned...

You should never forget that there are an unusually large number of Eurinal bureaucrats. ALL make money by establishing extreme rules and regulations and then accepting bribes to circumvent them. Here, they'll make big Euros by administratively declaring all the game in a geographic area for which a fee has been paid as "fit" and another bundle for post hunt exceptions.

No Eurinal gets rich without bureaucratic rulings.

Sounds like the perfect scenario for government parasites to meddle in. Especially EUnichs.

I know what will happen in the mountains of Greece. They will ignore the rule. The first ones to ignore the rule will be the police who go hunting themselves.

This is not about protection, this is just about creating enough bureaucratic rules to stop hunters.

It is a concept that works, thats to all the bureaucratic rules, the EU has successfully chased away any economic recovery.

I give PETA and the rest of the enviro-nazi/anti hunting/anti gun crowd about a week until they have one of their pet congress-critters trot out something like this here.

If they can ban hunting for "health" reasons, then we wouldn't need those evil guns...

Yes, and it will create a huge new class of what used to be called "poachers". That used to be people hunting illegally on other's lands, but now it won't matter where they hunt.

"The European Union Parliament will reportedly take up a bill that will require wild game to be certified as fit and healthy before it is shot."

And what will the Europeans do? Will they hunt down every wild animal in Europe and tag it to ensure that it can be safely shot by a hunter later?

Only a complete idiot with devise a "plan" like this.

That would go hand in hand with their law regarding the curveature of bananas and cucumbers as well as the redness of apples. They create so many laws that they run out of money just trying to enforce them.(it is expensive)
They have become so silly and soon totally irrevelant.

The "inspection" will be gamed to follow the letter of the law just enough. The net result will be a useless new rule.

The EU parlament is stiving for its superstate status.

The purpose of predation is to remove the unfit and unhealthy animals from the population.

Hunting is just human predation.

This doesn't sound right. We don't have enough information. I lived in Germany for several years and went hunting several times. Every year the owner of the winery where I worked had a big organized hunt where dozens of people killed piles of pheasants, rabbits and hares. The animals would all be lined up and counted by a constable. If not enough were killed, the winery owner could have been held liable for crop damage on the land we hunted on. Over there at the time they auctioned off hunting rights on land every few years and the person who won the auction was required to hunt on the land and kill a certain number of animals to control crop damage. Most of the land we hunted on was vineyards. I believe the animals were sold to hunting lodges where they serve wild game to customers. Since it is often being sold to the public, I could see the need for some inspections, although I can't imagine how the animals could be certified as healthy before they are shot. It also seems hard to believe though that they would no longer use hunting as a means for managing crop damage caused be wild animals. Something just doesn't sound right with this story.

By the way, people did have to have licenses to own firearms over there. I never had a shotgun on the hunts. Several of us without guns would walk in a straight line across the field closing in a "box" while people standing with shotguns every ten meters on the other three sides of the box fired in toward any game we flushed out. The only time I ever killed anything was when a hare came running around some brush right by me and I stepped on its head. The rest of the time I just pretty much kept low and watched out for drunk Germans with shotguns shooting towards me. It wasn't like hunting we do here. But it was fun. Man are those Germans some organized people.

I'd like to know who they are going to get to run around certifying this game.

Carry, that one piece you have would be perfect for this thread.
