I for one, am in the long haul here, marveling at the conversation. I back the President for many reasons. I am troubled by many of his actions that are contrary to a conservative philosophy. I have a 7-year-old son and his future is always at the forefront for me.

True, Bush is disappointing us from many angles. That said, the thought of any of the remaining dwarves determining America's future, defense-wise, is unthinkable to me.

It is also unthinkable to me that if more liberal judges are appointed, that will probably affect this country MORE in the future if one of the uber-leftists is elected.

I am patient. My checkbook is not. My foot is holding my checkbook shut from speaking. My heart won't let it open because of my little guy upstairs

P.S. My son isn't a soccer player. He loves baseball. And I smoke, go figure.

I love Bush, but this is one program I have to join the bashers on.

The NEA must go. Period. There should be no place for "state art" in America. Shades of Stalinoid paintings of Happy Factory workers. Besides, the arts crowd hates his guts and wants to send him back to Texas.

Therefore, anyone who votes against President Bush this fall has on their hands the blood of all those Americans who die thereafter- because they could have voted for the one man in the race who could win and kill the terrorists, but did not as a result of their own stupidity.

You go too far, sir. If the Drudge blurb is true and if Bush increases the NEA's funding, then he should and will answer for it. There is NO excuse for spending and wasting federal money like this. To claim that posters here "have blood on their hands" because they oppose such a profligate waste of taxpayer dollars is a despicable thing to say.

IF true, this is another bad move - but in my world, the War on Terror is the most important issue, and I don't want that in the hands of any Democrat. Ever. And there's only one way to prevent that from happening.

The road to reelection is not paved with the pissed-off bodies of the core conservative constituency. I wish someone would tell the White House that....

At this rate, so many of us are gonna get pissed off that Bush will have to hang up any realistic possibility of reelection.

And if it happens, Bush will have no one to blame but himself.

I supported Bush up until the moment I read about this proposal.

Given the history of this issue, his proposal to ramp up funding for the NEA is the clearest possible f)(k you signal Bush could possibly send to his conservative base.

And what is the point? This makes no political sense whatsoever! The damage he is doing to the conservative base--at a time when that base is already becoming enraged at his overspending--is clearly going to cost him 100 times the votes he might purchase by this small extra bit of pork largesse.

I might be able to stomache this if I thought it was part of a maneuver for larger political gain. But there is no suggestion of that here.

This is just incredible, colossal stupidity. And I will not support stupidity.
