Talk about safety on flights.....on a very local small channel here last night they reported a story about an Air France flight where a passenger videotaped for almost two hours-------the cockpit door open. I'm not sure but think it was heading back to France. I was on the computer and listening to the news, you know how that is, when the end of that quick story caught my attention. I've been trying to find it in print and can't, it was an NBC station.

No wonder Air France is always one of the one's grounded if this is accurate!!

Our local station KFMB, which is a CBS affiliate, used a clip of that same videotape as a teaser for their upcoming 11pm news last night. I did not manage to stay awake during the broadcast so I didn't get to see the whole story. What they did show in the teaser was exactly as you described, the open cockpit door.

I've looked on KFMB's site and can not find anything about it yet. I'll email them and see if they can provide a link.

I finally found out it was on our NBC affiliate, NBC739. Called the news desk and was told pretty much what you stated in your post. The only additional information that I received was that it was an Air France flight from Istanbul to Paris and the cockpit door being open was videotaped by someone from West Palm Beach.

I asked for a link to the story and was told that they picked it up from their West Palm Beach affiliate and for me to either look there (which I did and can't find it) or to GOOGLE it myself to find more info. I'm not a great googler but I did try and I can't find a thing.

But as you said, it is very easy to understand why Air France flights get cancelled so quickly if this is any indication of their security measures.

I wonder if the pilots left the cockpit doors open to keep an eye on the passenger who was video taping for 2 hours? LOL

Are they sure they were video-taping & not watching a movie through the playback feature? I've heard of some with small children doing this to keep the kids pacified during flights. It's cheaper than buying a portable DVD player if you already have the camcorder
