To keep the thread size down, start a daily threat matrix thread.

Early risers welcome. Cutoff point 6AM Eastern, could be started by insomniac westcoasters.

Again, a tip of the hat to the security services, who, IMO, certainly stopped some attacks in the CONUS/Europe - ANd very good that Mush survived the hits (IMO, the kickoff for a new wave).

Apart from the Egypt charter flights and the continuing attacks in Iraq, the jihadis plans were aborted.

Not noticed much here, but India's Republic day celebrations went off without a hitch after a cell of jihadis was busted with plastique explosives, RPG's, guns etc. in New Delhi itself, where the parade and festivities take place.

It's time to cheer and be confident, come what may.

Go to either itshappening.com or alneda.com (you'll be redirected to IH), click on the 'Enter Here' link then click on the 'Register' link to be able to post and perform other operations there. The mesages I posted likely have links to the site that will not work unless you are signed in with a cookie placed on your machine. Be prepared for foul language and disturbing links and images. It is a no-holds-barred-free-for-all over there, if you are willing to sift through the B.S. you'll find good information and discussion.

I don't disagree with what you are saying, and Tenet may well have to go in the current environment.

But if you saw that showtime 9/11 movie (which was supposedly "as it happenend"), Tenet is portrayed as being the essential person who cooked up the method of attack in Afghanistan using CIA/Special Ops in small numbers on the ground. Also, the CIA did apparently do a good job paying/promising off many Iraqi generals to just back off when our forces invaded.

The internals of the CIA are likely a mess, alot of beauracratic bungling, misguided politics with people like Wilson's wife et al. What you really need is a reform minded guy like Giuliani in there.

yes, that's true, KSM getting a visa is insane.

but you have alot of people here on FR that believe that the government doesn't have the right to get passenger ticket purchase lists or manifests in advance of flights to check the list against the terror watch lists.

it likely had destroyer and/or submarine escort. in fact, I wouldn't be surpised if some US attack subs have been assigned to partrol the major cruise routes in florida/carribean.

"What happens when there IS a terrorist attack and we provided information that no one saw because we're chatting??"

What do you think happens in a red alert regarding communications? Now what do you think happens in a covert red alert?

Mass panic will only get folks hurt...so the powers that be try to nip in the bud anything that might cause such...obviously we are at a point in civil defense beyond the importance of internet grass roots info sharing.

Thank you for your reply!

When a thread is moved to The Smokey Back Room . . . does that mean all those who've posted on it can still have access to it or what?

Yes, it is not a restricted area.

I've never really understood very well about the Smokey Back Room. How is it different from Chat?

The Smokey Back Room is for the unseemly, hostile debates. Hostility doesn't belong in Chat (as far as I know.)

Can people start a thread in The Smokey Back Room?

Yes, I've done that when the subject was "hot" and wasn't directly related to politics.

This last stretch of January has always been serious winter mode for the northeast...it may be a blessing this year.

" No one has ever seen any type of info pack."

Interesting. I haven't seen any mention of info packs either, just a sheet referencing a chem disaster protocol in my annual packet(but not the actual protocol.)

Our administrator just changed too. They did just change IPs and tightened up cyber security.

Easy for them to say, these are the same folks who don't *have* to fly. ;-)

what are you trying to say, that a red terror alert code would mean the government would shut down ISPs? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

There would be some limitation. Phone lines and cables would have to be kept open for official emergency use. The lid would have to be kept on mass panic.

Hi, everyone...

At the risk of having my foil hat on too tight (and to tie into a notation that Quayle will have on his site soon - provided he hasn't put it up just yet):

From CP:

Toronto core suffers blackout

TORONTO (CP) - Many workers in the downtown Toronto core got an unexpected afternoon off Tuesday following a two-hour blackout as a result of an equipment failure at a hydro station.

Diana Ospina made her way to the subway along with other midday commuters, fighting gusting winds, blowing snow and darkened traffic lights. Although she had some "pretty important" work to do in the afternoon, her employer sent her and her colleagues home when the power outage hit.

Their office in the heart of the city lost power at about 11 a.m., she said, affecting "servers, telephone systems and everything. So there was nothing we could do."

Her plans for the afternoon were basic.

"First I want to make it home, that's the No. 1 thing, and then just relax."

Bad weather wasn't a factor in the outage, Hydro One spokesman Al Manchee said.

Manchee said one transmission line was already out for scheduled maintenance when the second circuit went down.

He said the blackout, which ended about 1 p.m., was the result of equipment failure at a generating station just west of Bay Street, north of Toronto city hall. The hydro went up about two hours earlier than anticipated when the equipment was restored.

The outage affected thousands of workers, shoppers and students in the downtown area including Toronto city hall, courts and the University of Toronto.

While traffic was snarled by severe weather conditions combined with traffic lights that didn't work, streetcars and subways were still functioning.

"Mahdjoub's arrest was a minor victory in a major war being fought, bitterly and secretly, in cities from London to Warsaw, from Madrid to Oslo. It pits the best investigative officers in Europe against a fanatical network of men dedicated to the prosecution of jihad both in Europe and overseas. It is a war security officials know they cannot afford to lose - and that they know they will be fighting for the foreseeable future.

Previously seen as a relative backwater in the war on terror, Europe is now in the frontline. 'It's trench warfare,' said one security expert. 'We keep taking them out. They keep coming at us. And every time they are coming at us harder"

Like the story that disappeared about the workers being sent home in Pasco Washington and the building being disinfected/sanitized and the reason was never made public?
