Since you admit publicly to being a techie,
what should I do about the uncleanable, undeleteable files that virus scan site further back up the thread has found on my pc?

Gee..last time I try to offer help, with comments like that.

I seriously doubt that the CN&V board was the source of your viruses. I've visited this site many, many times, and have zero viruses from it.

More likely - infected emails, or hacking attempts to your PC as a result of your IP being exposed somehow.

Get a firewall if you don't already have one.

I wasn't offended. And you did explain your position nicely.

I tend to agree. Viruses, no, spyware/adware, probably.

I just had to uninstall ZoneAlarm because it was screwing up my pc. Perhaps I had the virus for a long time, before Zone Alarm.

Maybe it's time to just format the drive and start from scratch.

Oh, well.

Thanks.

The sites that are a concern, the ones we have been telling others to stay away from, are using Java to access through the browser. They are using the computers as a pop server.

The bird virus being shed would be dependent upon radiation or something that would cause immunosuppression to a certain degree...and that degree might only be anti inflammatory not even mild radiation sickness. It's a second punch so to speak. Just like the SARs shedding at a higher rate under administration of aspirin or in the renal patients.

"Cell phones will be allowed, but they will be examined."

Sounds like that article a ways back re: the cell phone with bombs inside was true and they are also looking for those.

>>>I remember the post. What exactly are you tring to say :)

Did you see the post I made about the Falcons getting vaccinated? Here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1065689/posts?page=820#820

If the message from that EOM board was right...

And Dubai has really been doing these experiments to make the falcons immune....

Then I have a bad feeling the next attack was a bio attack. And it already started.

I did see that article; but no, that isn't what got me started on the falcon.

That EOM board posted something about falcons. Between that post, this: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1065689/posts?page=820#820 and the avian virus that was shipped to Maine for testing....

That is what got me started on falcons.

The work I did independent of the Net is connected to the stuff I found on the net, Re:,"These two are connected. So I personally think it is a REAL concern"

This is my concern,
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1065689/posts?page=820#820

That is a genius way to launch a bio attack.

After visiting all these unusual sites in the past few weeks I found lots of those little parasites hiding in my computer. I have ZoneAlarm but that didn't seem to stop them so I wonder now what else it failed to stop. Any other suggestions for firewall protection?

HI Ruth: I remember the picture of the feather, that was on twexus but I can't remember the word that it was associated with. There do seem to be a lot of bird words floating around. (sounds like name of an old song)

I'm still trying to locate how the bird flu transfers from chickens/birds to humans. Didn't have much time last night because of those parasites infecting my computer.

I hope you're doing well, it's been cold at night in the desert, but I guess we can't complain considering the frigid weather up north and east. I will stop now because I don't want to cause us to go back to chat. But did think all the bird reference was interesting. I wish someone had copied all those messages and could post them here in one place.

Haven't been freepin much lately, so I'm sure if this has been posted on one of the threads yet, but...

http://www.nypost.com/gossip/44885.htm

January 15, 2004 -- STEVEN Brill had a summit meeting of TV anchormen and their bosses over dinner at his Fifth Avenue apartment on Tuesday night with Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge to discuss how they'll cover the next terrorist attack. Brill, whose book "After" detailed the response to 9/11, spearheads the America Prepared Campaign to educate the public. Joining Brill, his wife Cynthia and two of their three kids for dinner were Fox News Channel boss Roger Ailes, ABC News prexie David Westin, CBS News chief Andrew Heyward, CNN anchor Aaron Brown, plus Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw.

Oh no, no big surprise at all. Still maddening though. Especially for the security guard who has had to hire a lawyer.

I have no idea. It was BearWash that has the tankless water heater. Sounds cool.

Additional details from Symantec regarding the W32.Novarg.A@mm (aka Mydoom) email worm:

When a computer is infected, the worm will set up a backdoor into the system by opening TCP ports 3127 through 3198, which can potentially allow an attacker to connect to the computer and use it as a proxy to gain access to its network resources.

In addition, the backdoor can download and execute arbitrary files.

The worm will perform a Denial of Service (DoS) starting on February 1, 2004. It also has a trigger date to stop spreading on February 12, 2004. These two events will only occur if the worm is run between or after those dates.

Notes:

From TrendMicro:

If the system date is later than February 12, 2004, this worm discontinues running all of its routines except its backdoor functionalities.

This worm is packed under UPX. Besides being compressed, the strings inside its body are encrypted.

The autopsy revealed that Jandoubi was wearing two pairs of trousers and four pairs of underpants, which the coroner compared to what is worn by "Islamic militants going into battle or on suicide missions."

O.k., why do they need so many layers? I can see a few jokes about it, but what possible purpose does it serve?
