How Bush could lose it

President George W. Bush blew it Tuesday night. He delivered a State of the Union address that downplayed his most promising - and potentially revolutionary - domestic-policy initiatives. Earlier drafts had reportedly contained a lengthy exposition of his vision of an "ownership society," expanded and strengthened by tax changes and Social Security reform.

So, what can't you do now that you could do before? Fly without being searched? What else?

I'd say that's plenty, all by itself. While the TSA is strip-searching me and grandmaw,...El Presidente' Boosh is holding the door open at the border for every Jaun, Dick, and Harry to come in. Unconstitutional is unconstitutional...and certainly the beginning of the end of that document and it's accompanying BORs.

Would like to see the Republicans work for my vote, not just assume it.

Do you mean like voting for tax cuts? a ban on partial birth abortions?, rebuilding a depleted military?, voting for Conservative judges? supporting homeschooling/vouchers?...stuff like that?

I suppose when Al Qaeda starts bombing your hometown you will wake up and defend it...does that kinda sum it up for you?

LOL, I stand a better chance of winning the big lotto than having AQ show up in my town. AQ is pretty much administration fear mongering.

Oh AQ is a threat alright, but not as much as a neoconazi police state. First rule -- determine who the real enemy to our freedom is.

Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but unless you are living on a yacht off the coast of some island in the Pacific, you are vulnerable to the baddies out there. The Lackawanna 6 sleeper cells were caught in my "backyard" less than 10 miles from my location.

You are an example of what happens to the privileged whose comfort is too important even in the face of terrorist attacks.

I have *no* idea why steroids were mentioned.....:))

As far as the "immigration" deal goes, it's never gonna be passed into law.
I would guess this is some sort of "strategery" move, the details of which I'm not privy to.

Until the whole "politically correct" racket is shot down, little old white ladies will continue to get "shaken down" at airports.

Huge shifts in social paradigms rarely happen over night.

The "fall" of Jesse Jackson hopefully heralds a time when Americans will finally sicken of the entire "protected class"/class warfare scam.
If you look at things in the long run, it's good that gay rights activists/pro-abortionists/anti-gunners/etc. are becoming more vocal and strident in their demands.

It forces otherwise politely silent and uninvolved conservatives to finally get angry enough to stand up against them.
Case in point; my mother (who likes Edwards for a candidate and wishes Clinton could come back) was unconcerned about all the gay propaganda on TV just last year.
Now it's become so pervasive that even she is getting fed up with and angry about it.

As sick as the "special interest groups" make me, I delight in their ever-increasing, ever bolder "demands".
Why?
Because in my heart of hearts, I believe that the "real US of A, as you put it, still lives; half asleep but slowly and surely awakening.

Like Mel Gibson's character in The Patriot, some people need to be shocked into awareness and forced into action.
Sadly, so it is with some Americans.
I have faith that time will come.
I believe in my country, even if I cannot not believe in half of its inhabitants.
Somehow, we *will* overcome.

As far as Mars and the moon go, I'd suspect some sort of military advantage angle.
That's just my wild-*ssed guess, though.

Sorry I have no better *practical* answers for you.
I have only faith in what I believe will be....:)

Actually I'm just point out one of the great inconsistencies of the war and fear mongering administration who does little about closing and securing our borders yet takes every opportunity to trash the constitution and impose more oppressive and bigger government on its own citizens. Raises many questions and should set off alarms about what the neoconazis are really up to.

Here's a way that Bush is guaranteed to lose

Have him sign an extension or permanent assault weapons ban.

MILLIONS will stay home. So I hope Karl Rove is reading this.

Voting for tax cuts is a good start. Getting matching spending cuts so it won't become a future debt I have to explain to my grandkids would complete the accomplishment - else the other IS just temporary and foolish. Getting conservative judges onto the floor to be voted on - busting the filibusters - would be another big thing. Not renewing the AWB or starting a huge expansion of the Medicare program or (more gibberish inserted here), or...

Hillary is prepared to run to the right of GWB on the war on terrorism, job exporting, and possibly the borders.

That's pretty funny coming from a group who would be yelling "treason" at the top of their lungs if a democrat was trashing the constitution the way the current administration is. Hypocracy is so thick around here I'm stating to think that some of you believe your own BS.

p.s...I've felt the same as you have.
In a few elections, I did not vote for who best expressed my ideals for a candidate.
Having said that, I could not, in good conscience, give a divisive de-facto vote to Dems by punching that third-party hole, either.
As a person descended from Ulster "political prisoners" and Welsh miners, no one will go to greater (and often ridiculous lengths) to "prove a point" than I will.
But....there came a time when I realized that proving my point in the voting booth was spiting no one but myself, in the long run.
Every election is a gamble and I always try to place my bets on the 'horse' who pay off best over distance.
Sometimes a race is won by stamina and not speed.
You just gotta have patience...:)
