Bushs own standing has slipped among registered voters. "Because of American leadership and resolve, the world is changing for the better," he declared Tuesday. But more people now say they are dissatisfied (52 percent) than satisfied (43 percent) with the way things are going in the United States, down from a post-9/11 peak last April of 50 percent satisfied. And even thought Bush used the State of the Union to emphasize his controversial tax cuts, Medicare overhaul, opposition to gay marriage and a burgeoning economic rebound, Bush saw his job performance ratings dip to 50 percent approval (versus 44 percent who disapprove)his most negative ratings to datesuggesting a nation sharply divided over the president and his policies. To be sure, Bush is just as solidly backed by Republicans (85 percent) as he is opposed by Democrats (86 percent).
Overall, 52 percent of those polled by NEWSWEEK say they would not like to see Bush serve a second term, compared to 44 percent who want to see him win again in November.
As a result, Kerry is enjoying a marginal advantage over Bush, a first for the poll. Forty-nine percent of registered voters chose Kerry, compared to 46 percent who re-elected Bush.
In fact, all Democrats are polling better against Bush, perhaps due to increased media attention to their primary horserace: Clark gets 47 percent of voters choice compared to 48 percent from Bush; Edwards has 46 percent compared to Bushs 49; Leiberman wins 45 percent versus Bushs 49 percent; and Dean fares the worst with 45 percent of their votes to Bushs 50 percent.
------------------------------------------
For this NEWSWEEK poll, Princeton Survey Research Associates interviewed 1,006 adults aged 18 and older Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 by telephone. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points

Great Post!
It really is up to him.
If he is not responsible then we need him out now.
If he continues residing on the left he will loose.
Just like his daddy.
Not everyone is an enlightened Freeper that will vote GOP no matter what.

Another thread where some people are complaining about President Bush. He can't please everyone 100% of the time. He's done a hell of a job cleaning up Clinton's mess so far. Talk about loyal Republicans..not. Some of you are acting like whiny Democrats.

If none of Kerry's opponents makes a good negative ad against him based on the information in this Jonathan Cohn article, then the Iowans will have won! ...
Sean Hannity said Friday on the radio that while researching for his new book he came upon information on Kerry that will, Sean implied, ruin him. It's in his new book which will be released next month.

No...I don't assume that. Remember, this is the electorate that sent Bill Clinton to the Whitehouse....twice. That's thanks to H. Ross Perot. Clinton never even got a majority of the vote. And I'll bet some of the so-called "true conservatives" who whine the loudest about W voted for Perot back then.

I didn't know Rats ran in packs.
Kerredy, I mean Kerry, will get his butt whumped by Bush.
Kerredy, I mean Kerry, is a far left liberal, Bush's mental inferior, and he lacks the kind of charm, charisma and attractiveness that draws DemocRats who are lured by superficialities and controlled by emotion instead of logic.
What we are seeing here is the typical leftist manoever of propagandizing lies and phoney polls.

"Well, one thing is certain: Next year we will either have a Republican or a Democrat in the presidency."
So, I take it that you believe we can turn left or right and either way we will be going one way or the other, correct?

Good point. Kerry promised no more being nice to corporations that job export. He almost argued protectionisim without saying it. Something that will go over big in PA and the Great Lakes and the rest of the Rust belt. HEll he may get a few techie votes on the anti-outsourcing fears. If Kerry is the candidate that is.

Dukakis did not have a chest full of medals in an election year with a war on. No, but McGovern did.

I was not alive at the time? I know he lost but I have no knowledge of the McGovern campaign beynd teh fact that he had some looney wealth give away program? What was his position on Vietnam? Kerry voted for the war and is not saying we should not have fought the war only that Bush has fought it badly. Was that what McGovern was saying or was he for giving up and leaving Vietnam? Kerry said he would internationalize the Iraq occupation (whatever that means) and stay on.

Kerry said he would internationalize the Iraq occupation (whatever that means) and stay on. I wasn't alive at the time either, but his campaign was liberal on social issues, economic issues, and foreign policy. He advocated for a withdrawal from Vietnam, but not an immediate withdrawal and for the Vietnamization of the conflict. He voted for the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, but he quickly became an outspoken critic of sending American troops to Vietnam. Sound familiar?
He garnered 38% of the popular vote in 1972 even with his stint in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War 2 and flew 35 missions in a B-24 and had a distinguished record.

So Nixon copied his platform when it came to Vietnam? From what I remember McGovern was a very weak candidate - no fire in his belly did he also have a crazy VP candidate?

The democrats will have a surge right up until a few days after their convention.
The only ones campaigning are the Dems.
Bush hasn't even started campaigning yet. Therefore you only hear one side.
It is like a going to a football game and one team is scoring touchdown after touchdown. Then you see the other team isn't even on the field yet.
I still expect a landslide.

Bush hasn't even started campaigning yet. Therefore you only hear one side. That's true. Bush has some "big guns" in reserve. Just wait until he starts broadcasting ads extolling the seniors' Medicare drug giveaway, AIDS drugs for Africa, his proposal to legitimize 12 million illegal aliens and put them on the social security rolls etc.
Bush campaign cry (in paraphrase of John Paul Jones): "I have not yet begun to pander."
