This general and frequent display of idiocy is why I retired, and no longer fly. (I was a consultant and averaged over 150,000 miles a year since 1990).

Kicking sandals off is too much trouble for you to bear? Something tells me that much of life is a unbearable irritant for you.

When I traveled this week twice across the country, there were no such incidences of silliness, most people were still taking their shoes off to expedite getting through, though security was not really even asking them to remove sneakers any more. Maybe it is silly to think they could find explosives in little sandals. But silly does not equal oppression.

Nevertheless, those made in jest--though this is a stupid thing to do--shouldn't warrant four years in the pen, maybe some time or just a heavy fine but not substantial jail time.

Thank you for sharing. I feel four years is way too lenient. Stupidity should be a crime, heavy duty stupidity warrants heavy duty jail time. There. I've shared my equally valid opinion.

USF - exactly.

USF; af_vet_1981 - Remember he does not fly! Leave it to us "automatons and totalitarians" to witness how security actually works.

I was pointing out the ideological source of someone's idiotic responses, in case anyone was curious as to what drives a person to such kookiness.

When a government makes a serious crime out of just being immature and stupid, that is a problem. We are indeed loosing more freedom all the time.

I have been promoting stupidity as a serious crime for at least a generation. You got a problem with that? Feeling persecuted? What?

That these "immature" and "stupid" people are sought out to vote is perhaps the biggest crime of all, committed by our "government".

Would a 25-year old white female be carrying one unseen on her 110-pounds frame? Highly unlikely. Is that an appropriate use of time/resources?

Don't know. Wouldn't be considered inappropriate the first time a terrorist decided to become blonde. Or enlist one. Certainly you wouldn't have us only look at turban-wearing bearded guys with neon signs over their heads flashing "Terrorist".

No. You were, as usual, continuing your bizarre obsession with everything libertarian. This thread is about airline security - not libertarianism.

If you're interested in discussing the LP, go find a thread about that subject or start one yourself.

That's why human beings should never, ever, ever, ever, ever fly.

Not to worry. This guy was French...

It's my choice bozo. If the screeners wanted to stick a sigmoidiscope up your butt, you'd bend over as soon as the KY came into view.

I'm not suggesting I have the answer to that question either. What I am suggesting is that such behavior on the part of screeners has logical consequences. Those include providing an incentive for people to utilize other modes of transport. I can hardly fault them for that, as some on this thread seem wont to do.

Thank you for making flights for the rest of us a little bit more pleasant.

Evidently you are one of those fellows who enjoys body-cavity searches.

Please do explain this statement because from where I sit it falls to the category of stupidest things I have ever heard...

I don't fly. The airlines make no more money from me.

You have heard of economics, right?

No.

Those who go out of their way to patronize establishments that might perform a body-cavity search on them must like it.

The fact that you two have to wildly exaggerate to make a point tells me you know dang well your point is fairly bogus.

No, I'm not. Any other inane assertions?
And if the subject gives you a thrill, I'm sure that you could find a few other sites you might enjoy more than Free Republic. Try Google.

You're the one who likes to patronize places where you're likley to get one. I just made the observations.

It's my choice bozo.

That's pretty much the point. The government institutes absurd screening practices, staffs minimum wage losers to enforce them, and then folks act astonished when some choose to stop flying.

A new disincentive has entered the equation, and suddenly driving is preferable to flying for some (over certain distances). It should be clear to anyone that this was bound to happen.
