Arrest over bomb joke on plane
From correspondents in New York January 17, 2004
A HOLIDAYING French student was in a New York jail here awaiting a court appearance following his arrest over an aircraft bomb "joke".
He left the plane at New York's Kennedy Airport after allegedly joking that he had put a bomb in the plane's toilet, court sources said.
Frank Moulet, 27, was in custody in a floating detention centre called "The Boat" in Long Island Sound off the borough of The Bronx pending charges of making a "false scare".
His girlfriend, arrested with him after they arrived on an American Airlines flight from Santo Domingo, was put on another plane and sent back to France.
Police were called to the plane after a cabin attendant reported that Moulet raised his fist in the air as the plane was landing and shouted, "Oh sh*t, I guess the bomb I planted in the toilet didn't go off".
He faces up to four years in prison on the charge.
US immigration officials have said they are also interested in questioning him.

You could have been arrested for saying something like that on an airplane in 1974. I don't think you would have been arrested. My brother-in-law was held and questioned an couple decades ago after making a bomb joke at an airport.I think this is overkill, but it is (legally) equivalent to shouting fire in a theater. The airline industry doesn't need folks scaring off customers.

It is obvious that you do not fly any more.
I fly 2-3 times a month and every flight has been full. If airlines go bankrupt is is not because they do not have enough customers. Not a seat available for at least 6 months.
Also, the random searches ended almost a year ago.
If you want to argue with people, at least know what you are talking about.

What better way to invisibly subsidize the airlines?

Mmmm sounds good how disinformation still works in the "Land of the Free". This guy is one of my friend, he is not a student, and he didn't say THAT.
He was sick during the flight and an hostress found he spent too much time in the toilets, she urged him to get out. At the arrival, he said, in french, "did you think I was setting a bomb ?" The hostress who couldn't speak french only understood the word "bomb", and he got arrested.
Does that sound like a better scenario ?
That's precisely what happened.
Now do whatever you want with the info. He's been released today.

Tell your Friend never to say "BOMB" in an airport, NEVER.
Not even jokingly.

I wouldn't get on a friggin' airplane even if one of my relatives in another city dies.

Is it common for 27 year old men to be students in France? Obviously, this POMerde is not the sharpest cheese in France.
