***The Courage Of George W. Bush***
Stardate: 0401.17

As I listen to the jabberings of the misc. democrats who are attacking the President, those who were in the services, et al, I always remember one sight I will never forget the rest of my life......
A few days after 9-11 when no one knew what was happening and who was behind it, and no one was really sure if it was over, I watched George Bush, all alone, walk out to the mound at Yankee Stadium, in front of 55 thousand people and as clean a target as ever existed, show the world that America, (at least this American) wasn't going to be intimidated.....and there, all alone, no SS, no NYPD, nothing, he threw out that first ball.......
You could hear America stop breathing until he was off the field.......
That took more guts than anything any of these pathetic weasels ever did in their lives.......
I will never forget that.....ever......

This didn't take guts in the least. If you don't think that that stadium hadn't already been gone over by security, probably by the square foot, such that a dust mite couldn't fall without some SS agent knowing about it, you're sadly mistaken.

...for giving this nation the strength to get going again.
Yeah. And over the carping of the know-it-alls in the media. Remember them whining because the president told everyone to go on with their lives?

...I really can't make myself believe that the American people will forget this courage or the fact that we will need it in the future.
What's going to motivate me to work like the dickens for the President's re-election is the fear that they just might. People are fickle. It's always about "what have you done for me lately." Just look at some of the posts we've seen here on FR recently.

A band of SS conducted body-cavity searches for 55,000 people, and these primitive nutcase terrorists are operating with sticks and stones these days instead of having access to hi-tech gadgets and weaponry...

And if you know how security checks work, then you know that, inspite of those security checks, our president was still in jeopardy, and that his security people were very unhappy that he chose to go out and throw that pitch.

The most beautiful and stirring passage from a much under-rated Inaugural Address. "And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm." Those words are burned in my memory. I have frequently returned to them, even using them as my tagline for awhile.
Never has the shallowness and tastelessness of our mass media been so obvious to me as it has over the past three years. Our Dubya has given some of the most beautiful and momentous speeches and done some of the most significant things in American history. Yet when the media is not poo-pooing everything he does, they continue to feed us a steady diet of celebrity "justice," horse-race politics, and other equally vapid nonsense. They have done zero investigative work on the anthrax attacks; very little on how Bill Clinton's negligent foreign policy contributed to what happened on 9/11; and otherwise failed the American people.
I increasingly get my news from FR and don't even watch Fox News much anymore.

Beautiful photos, Onyx. The burdens he's carried since 9/11 have been etched on his face in just these three short years. But to me, the character inside him shines ever more brightly today than it did then.

Re the bottom photo, I'll never forget the day that was published. I happened to tune in C-SPAN and Brian Lamb was hosting Washington Journal. He showed that photo to the viewing audience and insinuated that what we all can see with our own eyes was actually not a tear, but sweat. If I could remember Lamb's sentence verbatim, I'd quote it here. But he said something like this: Either that's a tear, or the president was sweating. It was a small thing, perhaps, but coming from "Mr. Neutrality" himself, it startled me. I'll never, ever trust Lamb's claims of political neutrality again.
