Not bad for a President who isn't a "real" conservative!

...cannot think of one kitchen sink issue that the Rats can run on

LOL. I can. Pure hatred of Dubya, which plays into Dean's hands in the primaries. And of course, Dean will create 'Bush Democrats'. Rove can play dirty, LBJ-style politics with the best of 'em.

They're not interested in our views; they have their agenda and we're not going to change their minds.

Absolutely correct! The less Bush supporters frequent those threads, the quicker they will dry up -- believe some people just like having a confrontation. Cannot do that if we don't show up.

Refer to my post at #130 -- nobody's going to work UNPAID for 3 years; not even Pickering

Under President Bush's immigration plan, would that appointment then be classified as a job no American wanted?

Neanderthals is what Teddy calls Constitutionalist judges. We should pass around Neanderthal Pride T-shirts.

if, at the end of the session, a nomination for the office, other than the nomination of an individual appointed during the preceding recess of the Senate, was pending before the Senate for its advice and consent; or

__________

Wouldn't the above qualify him to be paid? I thought his nomination was pending before the Senate. The above are exceptions to a recess nominee not being paid. Since his nomination is pending, I think he will be able to get paid.

Yippeekiyay m*****f*****!

I concur.

I wonder if this will help win over the fair weather, "What has Bush done for me lately?" crowd.

Just when our extremists were trying to whip themselves into a frenzy...

They'll do it anyway. They don't need much of an excuse.

It has been three years! How much longer can Bush wait to appoint others?

Bush used the judicial nominee issue to orchestrate the 2002 democrat bloodbath. I imagine that he will use the same issue this year leading up to the next democrat blood bath. :-D

I will say it is about time. Bush re-nominated in an effort to try to get this done for a real appointment, but unfortunately, he had to do it this way.

I wonder if simply appointing the most extreme people possible for a bunch of recess appointments might help Bush send the message to confirm he regular, normal conservatives? He should nominate a bunch of extreme rightwingers and recess appoint them, telling the Dems in the Senate that they have the option of either letting those extremists in, or letting his mainstream conservative judges get confirmed for real, not just as a recess appointment.

Brilliant indeed! Impeccable timing! Bush Politics!

To appoint Pickering prior to the dems Iowa cauci and on the eve of the upcoming SOTU speech and it's a Friday surprise! This shifts the media attention back towards the conservatives and takes the shine off any dem politics.

Focus will be on the dem's comments of Bush's reccess appointment and away from any other issues. The press will be asking the candidates for a reaction to Bush's appointment and all the attention on other issues just disappears. That's politics. A 'stirring' of the coals, so to speak. The libs are going to go out of their minds and President Bush is just ensuring that they stay grounded in their 'absurdity'.

Next up . . . Bork. Hmmm. . . Let's see, when is the NEXT dem caucus. . . ?

According to the article in post 82, I believe he will receive his salary as a "regular" appointee who has also been designated a recess appointee. But check out the article, which is a rather long PDF.

Yes, according to Ted. He called all of President Bush's judicial nominees 'Neanderthals' and hoped he wouldn't nominate anymore of them.
