Democrat Dean Says Bush Obsessed with Re-Election

Democrat Dean Says Bush Obsessed with Re-Election Tue January 13, 2004 03:41 PM ET

By Mark Egan NEW YORK (Reuters) - Presidential hopeful Howard Dean admires former President George Bush but thinks the current president is "in some complicated psychological situation" with his father and is obsessed with re-election, according to a Rolling Stone interview released on Tuesday.

"I admire George Bush's father," Dean told the music and current affairs magazine.

"There were some things I strongly disagreed with him on, but he tried to be a good president," said Dean, one of nine prominent Democrats vying for the party's nomination for the November election.

"This president is not interested in being a good president," the former Vermont governor said. "He's interested in some complicated psychological situation that he has with his father. He is obsessed with being re-elected, and his obsession with re-election is hurting the country."

Some opponents have accused Bush of fighting a war in Iraq and ousting President Saddam Hussein to finish the business his father, who lost his bid for a second term in 1992, began with the first Gulf War.

This week, Bush's former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill said removing Saddam Hussein was a top priority at Bush's first National Security Council meeting, just days after his inauguration.

Asked what he felt the current president's philosophy was, Dean said, "George Bush's philosophy is, 'If you're rich, you deserve it, and if you're poor, you deserve it.' That's not my philosophy."

In a lengthy interview ranging from foreign policy to gay marriage, Dean reserved his most critical comments for Bush and Attorney General John Ashcroft.

"These guys are ... driven by an ideological view of the country, which they believe, literally, it's their God-given right to inflict on everybody else," Dean said.

An interview with Rolling Stone has become something of a rite of passage for candidates hoping to win votes among America's youth and has been known as an arena where candidates loosen up and say unusual things.

Dean bashed Bush over Iraq. "I don't think we should have been there in the first place. It didn't surprise me that the president made a mess of the place, because he didn't know what he was doing getting in."

You nailed it. President Bush hasn't even been out stumping yet.

Hey Howie, just a clue. Take your own obsessions to a psychiatrist, and soon. You are melting down into a little puddle of nothingness in which only the arrogant left can see their own reflection.

Ohhh...so that's it. A campaign strategy based on a false obsession falsely pointed at the sitting President in a time of war.

Got a plan for America? Anything? Didn't think so. Go Dean Go!

I can't wait to see a putz like you get buried under a landslide vote in '04

Bush has on occasion dismissed their rants as politics. He went on to say he has a job to do and there will be time for politics later.<>

On an aside. I'm guessing none of these rat cats has had a sit down with Ma Richards.

Yes. This is Liberal arrogance.

The New Yorker has an article about Dean too.
A kind one from a guy who's kid is working on his campaign.

It reeks of the NYC upper-crust former-WASP now-liberal-elitist NewYorkTimes reading arrogance.

They really think they can and they *should* run the country and 'take it back' from the American people who are unfit to run the country themselves because they are too uptight, guntoting, backward and "Churchy".

If that is the case, then every day with Dean is a rolling stone.

Dr. Dean is absolutely right. President Bush for the beloved protection and defense of our great nation and people, surely should be "obsessed" with staying in power long enough to whack the "evil doers" into hell.

Then, possibly, America, will be safe enough to even entertain the thought of having "a talks before he thinks" kind of president such as Dr. Dean.

This from a man who's done nothing but run for months while GWB was running the country and only started active campaigning in the new year - while still running the country? Dean's reality just isn't the same as his fellow Americans.

Yup... Howard Dean might have the spotlight right now with his unchallenged baseless accusations, and I believe President Bush has not responded by design, my guess is that he wants them to give them as much rope as they need before he engages. But Howard Dean's ridiculous claims will come home to roost if he wins the Condemnation... oops, I meant Nomination :-)

And if that North Eastern Limousine Liberal thinks he has it rough dealing with those lightweights he calls his challengers, wait until that "Whites Only" upbringing of his is questioned by President Bush. We already know the 8 Challengers won't bring this fact up because they have too many skeletons in their own closets to risk exposing this hypocrite Howard Dean
