What's Up With LightsoutGeorgia.org?
Joey Gibson

Has anyone in or around Atlanta heard the radio spots for an outfit called lightsoutgeorgia.org? They present themselves as some government agency who has the power to fine you if your exterior Christmas lights are still up after January 23. Their website is a single page that essentially has the text of the radio spot, a 'file a complaint' button and a 'file for an extension' button. I did a little checking and according to the 'whois' record for the domain, the registrant and admin contacts are some guy with a ClearChannel.com address.

The website claims that "Our legislature, in conjunction with local and federal officials, proposed and passed this ordinance" but they don't list the legislative session or the bill number. I have emailed the admin contact asking to be provided with this information, because I don't believe they have the authority to do a damn thing about anyone's Christmas lights, much less fine them.

Does anyone have any details on this group?

'Elaborate' being the operative word. They've bought radio airtime to pull it off. It's not just the website. As soon as I heard the ad, I was suspicious and the website added to that suspiction. The whois info I found pretty much convinved me it was a hoax, but I wanted to see if anyone had nailed it down yet.

That actually makes sense. I'm pretty sure I heard the ad during their show. (I'm not completely sure because I switch back and forth frequently between 96Rock and WSB.) I did hear that they would have that guy on, I just didn't get to hear the 'interview.'

Ah, in that case I'd say they've hit a home run. LOL.

I love the goony look in the "chairman's" face.

The WHOIS info address, via an ixquick.com check, is for this radio station:

This guy is out to get Christmas lights, probably from his next door neighbor, and wants to smoke somebody by saying "I heard on the Internet you have to take them down."

Heeeyyyy, that's a d*mn good idea. ;)

The Regular Guys also managed to scam Fox and Friends a few months back with a phone-in Arnold Schwarzenegger impostor. It took about five on-air minutes for Fox to figure it out.

Gotta love TRG featuring Georgia's most biased and unbalanced (right-wing) news.

SEPCO (savannah electric) had nothing to do with that picture. :) This is a scam. I searched the Georgia Code for the legistlation. Its not there. Without a docket number or code number, I doubt that you could ever find this law anyway. Just another attempt by some ....person....something.... that thinks its tacky to leave your lights up past Christmas night (even though Christmas isn't over until Jan 6 anyway)

Well let's see... that took about 45 seconds to figure out. Kudos to the guy who had enough brains to do a whois check.

Boortz would say "call them party lights". My house just has large number of party lights and we will be holding more parties this year.
