OK, we are getting back into the old patterns of things, so maybe this will snap people back to the fact that I am determined to not have the old pattern return. On this thread, there was a ton of baiting, a ton of personal attacks, some veiled racism, and quite a few posts that striked me as literally indicative of insanity on the part of the poster— if the poster meant what he said. Y’all have to do a better job self-policing or these discussions won’t happen. And I do not buy the argument that one side wants that to happen. I see threasds where one side starts it, I see threads where the other side starts it. I see threads started where it seem the person posting the thread is the one who is doing things to start the thread down the path to being pulled, backroomed, or locked. I’m going to post to the individuals I see doing these unconstructive things but anyone who thinks “I am talking about them not me” is not getting the point. Everyone can do their part to make these threads better. Even someone who never has posted anything which is bad can help by helping to tell those they agree with on issues to back off when they are doing things like flaming or tinfoiling or baiting. This is going to take effort, and some are making it and some are not. Please make it.

Hill Cool to Bush Immigration Plan

President Bush's proposal to give temporary legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants is running into stiff resistance from both left and right on Capitol Hill and stands little chance of enactment this year, according to supporters and opponents. While this assessment is based on early responses, with the lobbying effort barely begun, some lawmakers say the measure's only chance of passage this year would require an all-out push by the president, and even that might not be enough.

No! I don't agree with that assessment. I think the President does plan and research .. but he also knows that the issue needs to be discussed.
Bush has never done anything as a "trial balloon" .. sorry .. you have the wrong president!

My team has won it all several times. Yours?
Oh, we're in quite a dry patch in the quest for the rings. We have, however, finished ahead of you boys since '96, and counting. So, what's your take on the Bush proposal on Illegals? You still pro-deportation/anti-Amnesty?

From another limp-wristed socialist republican of the People's Republic of Minnesota no less! Ha! I've been everywhere (man) and there's no bigger tougher guys on the planet than in Minnesota. German/Irish/Scandinavians. Come on up sometime, I'll headbutt you into week, then continue my evening as a handsome rogue/bon vivant.
To: KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle
W's a bright guy; but, every so often, he gets a bee in his bonnet and hauls off with something really stupid. Babbling about renewing the Assault Weapon ban was one of those stupid attacks. This slow-motion amnesty is another. We're all left hoping that the Republicans in Congress will stand between W these brain farts. (And counting on that pack of linguini-spined marvels for anything gives my the screamin' willies!) I suppose that they could come to the rescue and save W from himself, but they didn't when he went stupid over prescription drugs. Nor did they keep him from getting soft-headed over Teddy Kennedy's education bill. Nor did they prevent his Campaign Finance idiocy.
Like I said, W's a bright guy. He's spot on probably 90% of the time... But it's that 10% you have to worry about. A little stupid goes a long way.

"Thanks for admitting your real position and motivation for supporting this atrocity" And what, exactly is my real position?
As I am tired of typing, here's some of my Radical "Mexifornia" ideas from another thread...
"Bush's plan, what little I have heard and read of it, seems OK to start. However, I would hope to see more "Employer Enforcement" such as, increased penalties for hiring non-"Blue" or "Green" Card holding workers. I further think it is the height of folly to allow non-citizens (let alone Illegal Immigrants) access to "Welfare State" benefits, such as Reduced College Tuition, free Medical Care, Food Stamps, et al.
I would also like to see the employer of a "Blue" card holder be responsible for ALL infrastructure demands of that worker, e.g. if the EMPLOYER doesn't provide health insurance, WORKER gets in an auto accident, the EMPLOYER is responsible for any unpaid Medical or Liability Insurance Bills or claims.
What I am saying is these folks ain't going anywhere, I don't care how many guns you got. So bluster away, vote Democrat, Libertarian, Know Nothing Pary and the Future just gets here quicker. I'm sticking with El Jefe Bush!"
"If you vote Democrat or Third Party because you're mad at Bush for trying to do something, the future just gets here faster. Of course, some of these "Guest Workers" might just NOT be in favor of Abortion on demand and Gay Marriage and be pro-family, but you're going to show those RINO's, right?"
"I think the idea of a "guest worker" program is just peachy. It will shut up, once an for all the "There ain't no jobs, I've looked" crowd. And it will quantify it. Of course the Unions are the ones that are going to really get slammed by this provision."
There's more but my Computer has a Baloney Filter in the Reg Tray and it's flashing.

You still pro-deportation/anti-Amnesty? Yes, in Fantasy land/yes, like Bush.
We have, however, finished ahead of you boys since '96, and counting.
Crowing about losing better is ridiculous.
Note to SF and 3rd Parties. You have to WIN.

They'll put this thing off until after the '04 elections. It'll be up to us to do the homework on our incumbents to see how they're likely to vote. In which case, we'll probably have to prepare to vote them out of office.
If Shrub gets in, it'll be a done deal!
Does anyone remember which site has a report card on our politicians to see how they voted on issues?
To: pacpam
Oh, we have solutions but he doesn't like them. I propose a high tariff on any good or service entering the country, and the RICO act plus mandatory jailtime for any employer hiring an illegal alien. Add NO public assistance whatsoever and they'll run back across the border where they belong.
To: Sabertooth
Butt out already.
Christ, you're an annoying weasel.
