Email/Letter writing campaign against The President's plan for immigration
Myself

Posted on 01/07/2004 7:45:17 PM PST by Remember_Salamis

Has anybody started an email/letter writing campaign in response to the president's proposed immigration initiative?

We need to show the president that he can't take advantage of his conservative base.

"I guess you have not read his remarks but it is NOT amnesty."

When I hear them say, "This is not an amnesty", I'm reminded of Reno's tanks blaring out, "This is not an assault."

"How exactly are they being rewarded? If they'd stayed at home they wouldn't have to pay the fine."

I'm not sure I understand your response to my post...(what fine???) People who enter our country illegally for what ever *good* intentions, are breaking the law; when they are granted anmesty, that is being rewarded.

Also, a person from Mexico who used pick lettuce now has taken your dad's computer job. Please keep on posting you are showing the "effectivenss" of DU trolling.

Lets see. Automotive Technicians, Construction work ( home building, roofing , plumbing , electricians etc..), Manufacturing , Nursing . Just to name a few. These are all currently being swarmed by cheap labor, from all over the world. Mexicans are heavily in the Construction and Automotive fields. You still feel safe ? What happens when these Mexican migrant workers hit say GM or Ford. They will be legal to hire by these companies. Nothing will stop them fom taking any job in unskilled or skilled labor. Still feel safe? Think I am a DU troll, you are crazy. Get your head out of the clouds and look at the big picture here !!

Poor examples. Both are heavily unionized as are almost all "skilled" occupations these people may get into.

That's always been the problem, everyone jumps up and down talking about getting them out of here, but when pressed, no one has an actual working plan on how to go about identifying, arresting, and removing ten million people who in many instances are intricately intertwined into our society, from the country without violating every civil, human, and constitutional right that I can think of.

Go read Sabertooth's 18 step program.

GWB has been so brilliant in his forign policy and prosecution of the War on Terrorism - how can he turn around and be such a drooler on domestic issues?

He can't engage in overtly partisan political domestic squabbles while he is first and foremost tasked to be the CIC for ALL OF US. The American people gain solace in his fitness and temperament to send our kids into peril, protect us from the Bin Laden Traveling Boys Choir, and do the things he needs to do to keep we and ours alive - he can't be getting down into the slime with Daschole, no matter how many liberties those punks are taking with his vulnerability.

He's getting a 15%-20% chunk of the Democrat voting bloc to support him as CIC because of his measured demeanor. That's crucial ... their sons and daughters and family and friends are dying for all of us in Iraq, Afghanistan and all of us are vulnerable to the next attack. Bush provides a large measure of security to most Americans (who aren't mentally ill with hatred for him) so that we can go about our business, emerge from our 9/11 economic and psychological devestation, and rebuild our uniquely American community sense of hope and limitless future.

He's not going to do anything as contentious as appoint recess jurists to the Court of Appeals or force showdowns with Daschele and the soulless vampires of the Seante Democrat caucus. He's not going to do that while we're at War.

All the nitpicking here is absurd.

Don't you think that this is maybe...overstating the situation? It would be one thing if we had North Korea for a neighbor, but all we've got is Canada and Mexico. No one is worried about the dirty Canuks taking us over, and if you look at the relative population levels, there really aren't enough Mexicans to ever overwhelm the US. Proportionately, we had more Irish sneaking in than Mexicans back during the tater famine.

Yes, something does need to be done about illegal immigration. This plan seems to provide a carrot and a stick to prod these people into a tracking system of sorts. We can't expect an "Iron Curtain" along the huge US/Mexico border, that is far too costly in both money, manpower, and political capital. However, this plan, a velvet rope backed by a burly usher, is better than nothing.

That's okay...just sing to yourself in the corner there.

Since you had his post deleted, I can't comment on it, other than to say that he's more than welcome to sit here "in the corner" with the rest of the 80% of America that is strongly opposed to this travesty. And you're more than welcome to continue whistling past the graveyard, pretending that your majority of 20% would actually mean anything in a world where President Rove wasn't running the show.

Bush factored out all of this "base" based on their pattern of taking their ball and going home over the last 4 election cycles. He doesn't need them and he sure doesn't owe them a thing.

An interesting analysis. Much like the homosexual activists are to the Democratic Party, which learned they are not very loyal constituents, either.

"So they will simply sit on the sidelines, complain and be irrelevent to the process."

I'm quite sure there are plenty of us that will be relevant come November.

Bingo.

It's easy to be smug about how the 80 percent of America that is viscerally opposed to this insanity is relegated to "the sidelines", thanks to the smirking regime enforced on them by President Rove

But, when they stay on those "sidelines" on election day, well, I think that may be the one thing that'll wipe that cloying smirk off Rove's face.

Comes a time to face the music. Methinks that time is this coming November.

What's that stuff Lincoln said about you can't fool all of the people all of the time?

I'd be brushing up that resume if I was Karl Rove right about now. Maybe France can use a "good" policymonger like him. Or maybe he can go into partnership with Carville. Frankly, I'm having a harder and harder time telling them apart these days.

Failing that, as Bill O'Reilly said this evening, "If I'm in Peru and hear about this, I'm heading north tomorrow."

Why would someone in Peru want to head North tommorrow? If they stay in Peru they can apply for guest worker status at some point in the future and avoid the fine.

Maybe so ... But unions have been on the decline for decades. Don`t ever think a union will save an industry. How many GM, Ford, and Chrysler plants have moved out of the US ? The UAW couldn`t stop that could they? Remember the US steel industry? Not much of one now is it? These migrant workers will be hitting small business very hard. You familiar with the H1B and L1 visa programs? Right to work states? I see this coming from the south, and it will hit manufacturing hard. Only this time it will be legal.

SO...just how many border posts should we build, and how do we staff them? Do we make it two layered? Do we use the Army or build a "Border Guard" that is analagous to the Coast Guard? What sort of sensors do we use? Do we put up cameras along the whole border?

Each of these questions is thorny and introduce a whole other slew of arguments and issues. The fact is, if it were easy, we'd have already done it. The W plan isn't perfect, but it is a start. :p

E-Mail #1 (today)

Dear Mr. President,
Please stop this insanity concerning illegal aliens. Yes - ILLEGAL. You
are opening up the United States
for a terrible, perhaps death, blow.

I have been a registered Republican and voted as such for many years. If
this bill passes, I will either
not vote or, if Joe Lieberman happens to be nominated, I will vote for him.
Additionally, not one more
penny will I contribute - period.

I have the utmost respect and admiration for you and all you have
accomplished these last three years, however,
it this bill succeeds, it will destroy everything you have accomplished. If
you would like me to itemize each and
every fact, I would be happy to send you a breakdown.

God bless you and the family,

E-Mail #2

Dear Senator Frist,

In the E-Mail I received today, you mentioned you were on your way to visit
Vicente Fox regarding immigration issues.
I wish I had known sooner because I would have included a copy of the
following to you. However, here is
the E-Mail I sent to Vice-President Cheny and Secretary of State Colin
Powell:

Subject: ILLEGAL Immigration

Mr. Vice President,

After reading the full article in the Washington Post, I tried to write the
President. Laura Bush's name kept coming up
so I decided you would be next in line.

Please advise the President and whomever else involved, there is to be NO
special treatment for Illegals. And,
please tell them to STOP referring to them as Undocumented. This is just a
cover-up for lawbreakers. As far as
our Social Security system is concerned, I sincerely believe they have NOT
paid into it under false Social Security
numbers - it is against the law for anyone to employ them - including
housekeepers. This I was told.

I demand that all ILLEGALS be deported for breaking the law and if they wish
to return, do so legally - just as my
father and grandparents did many years ago.

The MEXICAN border is to be closed to all illegal activity, including drug
smuggling, and no special deals for
those that broke the law. I remind you what we the people of California
accomplished once former Governor Davis
signed the bill giving driver's licenses for illegals. With all that's
going on with illegals, is it any wonder the state
is bankrupt. Remember, I am one of many whose taxes are going up and up
while services, medical and crime
figures deteriorate. This is no longer acceptable and must STOP now.

I am a registered Republican and have voted and donated for many, many
years. Please advise all concerned
that I will not donate one more penny until this situation is resolved.
Again, NO special treatment for lawbreakers.

Sincerely,

"Bush to Seek Immigrant Benefit Protection

Republican officials said Saturday. "
