Bush to Frame Migrant Policy (Congressman Gallegly: Any Amnesty Is "DOA" In Congress)

President Bush is preparing to outline significant changes in immigration law this week, including an expanded guest worker program and the opportunity with restrictions for millions of undocumented workers to get green cards, congressional and business sources said Monday.
The announcement, which could come as early as Wednesday, is expected to be more of a statement of goals and principles than a detailed legislative proposal; it is unclear how hard Bush will press for congressional approval before the November elections.

Republican opponents of liberalizing immigration law on Monday called Bush's plan an amnesty and predicted that it would face tough going in Congress.
"You might call it amnesty on the installment plan, you might call it amnesty after some sort of indentured servitude, but it's amnesty and that is the worst type of public policy," said Rep. Thomas G. Tancredo (R-Colo.).
"If it's truly an amnesty program, it's dead on arrival," said Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley). "Even those of us who strongly support George W. Bush don't agree with him on every issue. I wasn't elected to be a rubber stamp."

If President Bush thinks that a disinformation plan on a subject this important is going to gather him support, he had better think twice!
What is happening is more and more people are finally starting to question why the RNC and the President will not allow this subject to be discussed openly by Republican Senators and Congressmen.
They are wondering just what UN plan the President is following. To me it looks exactly like Agenda 21, to a T.

I wonder if anybody considers that Bush might be proposing plans, knowing full well that they would not be passed into law?
Yeah, like when he let the Campaign Finance bill go sailing through, on the premise that the Supremes would surely knock it down?

Administration officials familiar with the president's plan said he would outline broad principles for immigration reform and call on Congress to pass legislation, but not offer legislative language of his own.

The status quo is not acceptable. If President Bush is able to stop the massive illegal immigration that's been going on for decades, he'll have my support!

Truly astounding that in this day and age, rather than SECURING the borders and kicking out everyone in the country illegally, GW wants to keep the borders WIDE OPEN and give amnesty to millions of people who snuck in.
I am outraged that any politician, but particularly GW, would jeopardize my life, my families lives, the lives of friends and of fellow Freepers and Americans by continuing to ignore the border problem.

Thanks.
I'm hoping that he's just going to attempt to pander to the Hispanic community without having any real substantive proposals.
Please God don't let Bush make the immigration situation any worse than it already is.

That, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how Democracy is supposed to work. Gallegly has my attention if he has a lot of spare time on his hands in two or four years and wants to shoot for higher office.

It also give Bush an escape hatch - "Don't blame me, Congress vetoed it!"

Yeah, pray that this is just an election year gimmick that the President has no intention of every passing.
Kind of like that "Middle Class Tax Cut" that Klintler was always promising every 4 years - LOL

Like I've said time and time again, amnesty is an affront to every American, living or dead. It cheapens our citizenship, national identity, national heritage, and the toil and sacrifices that every one of us have invested in this country. It says to our forefathers, 'All that you did was for naught', and allows illegal lawbreakers to become legal parasites, feeding on the fruits of our labors.
To: StoneColdGOP
Thank God for REAL conservatives like Cali's own Elton Gallegly! You're more optimistic than I am. What worries me is the following:
"If it's truly an amnesty program, it's dead on arrival,"
I parse everything with a jaded eye. "IF it's TRULY an AMNESTY program." Well, so far it's not "truly an amnesty program". It's merely an as yet unstated hope for a change in policy.
I've got a lot more calling to do tomorrow and Gallegly's office is first on my list. Good luck to him.

I've been calling, faxing, e-mailing. We all should do this. If any of these people think they'll be re-elected if they vote for this insanity, they'll be disappointed.
Don't forget to vote in the FR poll about illegal immigration!

Do you really believe the president's proposal is DOA? I'm not suggesting Gallegly is lying, but maybe he doesn't understand that Bush always gets what he wants. Do you really believe if this wasn't a done deal, that Bush and Fox would publicly announce it to the world?
We'll get this, or some form of it possibly even more destructive either around August or the end of the year.
What did Bush do in Monterrey??? An innocent SOA to work out legitimate problems with the FTAA?? How stupid can people be?
Maybe there is an innocent answer. If so I'd really like to hear it.
Apprehension is growing every day. It looks like the border governors (TX, CA, AZ and NM) are having a meeting in August, the month the WH wants this proposal enacted. If they don't enact it this this year, what happens after election and the next summit on January 1, 2005?
Double check my post and then feel free to correct me, please.

Mexico buys missile launchers from Israel
http://www.phxnews.com/fullstory.php?article=8957 The Mexican Navy announced yesterday that it has bought from Israel two fully operational Aliya class speed boats capable of launching 5 Gabriel missile each. Naval Captain Arturo Flores Gil told the Mexico City "La Jornada" newspaper that Mexico had paid Israel 60 million dollars for the two naval missile launchers and 10 missiles.
Each missile is capable of being outfitted with nuclear warheads.
Why would Mexico spend such large sums of money for weapons at a time when countless of Mexicans have no tortillas nor frijoles to eat and are being force to migrate to the USA? Captain Arturo Flores Gil said that the highly sophisticated weapons are needed to protect the 360 PEMEX oil rigs in the waters off Campeche. The Campeche oil fields are the richest in Mexico that produces 83% of the nation's oil.
When La Jornada asked Captain Arturo Flores Gil whether the weapons purchase meant that Mexico is collaborating with the Israeli Defense Forces, he answered, "It was a purchase based strictly on commercial considerations." President Vicente Fox Quesada of the Partido Accion Nacional (PAN) has been increasingly criticized for the disproportionate number of Jews in his administration and for taking large sums of money from Jewish groups in the USA during his campaign.

I wonder if anybody considers that Bush might be proposing plans, knowing full well that they would not be passed into law? I've been saying that since day 1. It will be DOA in Congress and Bush can say "Well, I tried. Sorry."
